OP, I think there are test strips that will reveal if there are hydrocarbons in the coolant. If exhaust is mixing with coolant, you have a failed head gasket and/or cracked head.
i am planning to purchase "Block Tester BT-500 Kit" on my next trip to San Antonio(hopefully in March) to check for exhaust gases in my coolant. Is there any other way to test for a cracked head or cylinder without opening the engine? I don't have the space or tools nor a good mechanic who is experienced with infiniti engines in the city I live.

Infiniti cars are very few here in the city I live and there is no good mechanic who has experience with the cars and their components

You can buy a pump that screws to the radiator to pressurize the cooling system and perform a leak-down test. It's possible that if there is a cracked head, the crack might be at a valve seat that will stop the leak if the valve is closed.

It is confusing though that you state there is no coolant loss.

okay.. will try to perform the leak down test. yes, i am confused about the sweet smell and no coolant loss. after i take the car for a three hour drive this weekend, i will check again for coolant levels and engine temperatures.
once again, thank you for responding
