From the pictures, it looks like it on the oil pan., near the oil filter.

It is located close to the oil filter and there are 2 sensors in that area:

The thicker sensor is the oil pressure switch.
The thinner sensor is the oil temp sensor.

Yesterday afternoon my engine abruptly limited power as if running cold despite being at full operating temperature. It happened again yesterday evening and this morning for a total of 4-5 drive cycles without throwing any codes. This afternoon it thankfully reverted to normal behavior and reported "pending" DTC code P0196 "Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Range Performance." As I prepare to test my EOT sensor and wiring, I see that this page lists the engine oil temperature sensor as part number 22630-44B20 "superseded to" 22630-ED000, which retailers describe as "engine coolant temperature sensor." Is this correct (the same part is installed in multiple places for various temperature readings)?

Nissan / Infiniti uses the same sensor for oil and coolant temperature.

Before you replace it, I would check the voltage at the sensor:
• at about 20C/68F it should be about 3.5 volts
• and around 50C/122F it should be about 2.2 volts.

I would suspect the wiring is your issue.
Those temperature sensors are very durable. (simple NTC thermistor)

Access to the engine oil temperature sensor is quite limited, but this worked perfectly for removing it without also removing the engine oil pressure switch, oil filter, or anything else:

The diagnostic procedure on page EC-261 of the Engine Control System volume indicates that the resistance across the sensor's two terminals should measure as follows:

68°F (20°C) --> 2.1 - 2.9 kΩ
122°F (50°C) --> 0.68 - 1.00 kΩ
194°F (90°C) --> 0.236 - 0.260 kΩ

The original sensor measures ~47 Ω regardless of temperature (I tested it at 55°F, 120°F, 160°F) so clearly is kaput after nearly 10 years and 128k miles.

Well done!

By the way, what is the part number stamped on the sensor and is it made by Bosch or Nissan?

Stamped on the hex bolt faces of the original sensor:
  • the Nissan emblem
  • NILES
  • JAPAN
  • A27-621 T03
  • 0108
I see no other markings. I replaced it with
this this
.

Thanks for the detailed and quick reply.
Make sure to use a copper washer when you install the new sensor. If the new one doesn't come with one, you can reuse the old one.

The replacement did come with a new copper washer and the car now runs like it should. Thanks again!
