STOCK MOTOR: Highest Nitrous Shot?

I am getting a nitrous kit installed on my car this weekend. WHat do you guys think is the highest I can go on stock motor? It is a direct shot wet kit.

the highest shot is 100-125tops. safest is 100 from everything i have read or seen

You should consider a safe tune when using nitrous as well. I saw that you're thinking about a wet kit which is great, but you still need to verify your A/F is in the safe zone when spraying.

I purchased the most expensive kit with all the goodies that are available. My tuner should be taking care of the rest, I was just wondering whats the most someone has done, safely.

Why not a 300 shot, the motor can handle 600+ hp with twins right?

Because it's air, which means you will LEAN out your fuel mixture.

BUT I always loved seeing a motor disintegrate with too much N2O!!!

This always comes to mind when people talk about nitrous.

Can we keep this on topic please

Which kit did you get and how much did it run you?

Steveo47 04-15-2011 09:53 PM

nitrious kits look sweet under the hood, not sure if i would feel comfortable using one though. Keep us posted on everything that goes on, i have yet to see a detailed use of nitrous on the forum.

to answer your question I don't think anyone on this forum is successfully running a NO2 kit, I'd start with a 100, 125 at max. I can't wait to see how your project comes out.

Start out with 100HP

I'd say anything less than 100HP gain isn't worth the expense and refill costs. I ran nitrous for about five years, but not on a high-compression engine. Common wisdom was that for the 305 V8 engines you could "safely' add 50% (e.g. a 200HP car becomes a 300HP car).

Right... that's why you run a "wet" kit, adding both fuel and nitrous together.

When I ran NOS, I had the kit set up with a fuel pressure sensor and RPM window switch, so if any variable was out of spec, the solenoids wouldn't open (or would close). Worst case scenario with my setup was that I'd run low on N2O (or more commonly, bottle got to cold and pressure would drop), actually making the fuel mixture too RICH.

I'm running a 100 shot.
I would not recommend any more unless you wanna kill your motor/drivetrain.

my tuner is running 560 to the wheels with a turbo.. he says these motor are very strong... you should be safe with 100 shot easy..i think if its tuned right it could handle 200 easily
