Schaeffer's 7000 5W-30

Found some info on Schaeffer's 7000 5W-30.

1. It's API-certified with the starburst "For Gasoline Engines" mark. Meets all the requirements of your G37 owners' manual.

2. The cheapest price I have found so far is Ron McCready out of Clermont, Florida. $53.16 per case of 12. Shipping on 1 case of 12 to Texas is $12-15. So ~$5.67/qt delivered. Free shipping anywhere in the US on orders over $350 (i.e. 7 cases of 12). His e-mail is ronmccready@yahoo.com, and his phone is 321-228-3641.

I spoke to Ron, and he swears by Schaeffer's. Been using it for 20 years. Besides protecting your engine, he says it will improve your gas mileage.

3. Here is the Tech Data. Some notes:

Viscosity at 100 degrees C is 10-12. That's normal to awfully thick. Eneos is 10.4. I've only seen a couple of 5W-30 oils rated 12.

Viscosity index 159. Eneos is 169.

Flash point 231. Eneos is 232.

TBN 7.5. Eneos is 6.4.

NOACK is 13.9. This seems high to me.

4. I've not found any UOAs for the VQ37 engine on Schaeffer's. Resolute seemed to love it in his mammoth thread on oil in the VQ35 engine. There were 2 UOAs posted for Schaeffer's 5W-30 with an average of 4750 miles per OCI. Here were the wear metal averages for Schaeffers:

Aluminum 3
Chromium 2
Iron 9
Copper 4
Lead 2
Tin 0

Heres a VOA for Schaeffers 7000 5w30.

Schaeffer 7000 5W-30, OAI - Bob Is The Oil Guy

It has a lower starting TBN, but from the UOAs, it seems to have very good TBN retention.

The additives off the top of my head look VERY similar to the Nissan Ester Oil.......

HOUSTON AREA GROUP BUY

I have spoken to the Schaeffer's distributor in the area, and if we get a group together and order 7 cases of 12 qts/per (84 qts total), we get:

1. $4.50/qt price
2. Free shipping/no tax

So let me know if you want:

6 qts for $27
12 qts for $54
18 qts for $81
24 qts for $108

Once we reach a commitment of 84 qts, I'll place the order and ask you to send payment via PayPal or other means. I'll let everyone know when it arrives and make mutually agreeable arrangements for your pick up.

:icon17: So are you off the Eneos bandwagon now?

Schaeffers is a good oil and has good rep on BITOG..... but its not as "mainstream" as Mobil 1, PP, etc. so not a lot of people know about it or use it.

Ive seen some discrepancy in the VOA's for Schaeffers. I believe they have an API cert 5w30 and a non API cert 5w30.... although Im not 100% sure.

Personally, I think that VOA on the one I posted looked pretty darn good. The additive package looked pretty nice and very very comparable to the Nissan Ester Oil. The biggest problem with the Nissan Ester Oil is its cost, and it shears after 4k miles. Schaeffers is half the price, and based on UOAs, it wont shear like the Nissan Ester Oil so IMO its a pretty good option for those who want an additive package similar to the Nissan Ester Oil, which Nissan recommends, but wont shear down and will last a little longer.

If you are in contact with Schaeffers, because the VOA I posted was from 2008, see if they switched their formula since 2008 and if they didnt, I would give it a shot.

LOL Not at all. I changed that factory fill (Nissan Ester?) crap out at 500 miles for conventional dino. I'll take delivery of 6 qts of Eneos 5W-30 semi-synthetic soon, and put that in at 2000 miles.
