Nismo Finned Differential Cover
 

I have the g37/370Z Nismo Finned differential cover.

I was wondering if I need to have the pumpkin/drive-shaft/axels removed to install the new finned cover?

I doubt you'd have to take much apart. I think there's some kind of brace that connects to the diff cover that you might have to remove tho.

These are selling for about $120 on ebay i think..I got mine from The Nismo Shop West Covina.

They look great and functional too. I think if you were to peek at the tailend of the G37 from a driver-view from behind you might possibly notice the fins on the underside, which would look nice too.

I'm just not sure how much work is needed to remove the diff-cover and whether this would void the DTrain warranty. I plan to install this along with the Fujitsubo, Ichiba-Y and some Hotchkis sways to save time.

^ From the looks of that one that Kid posted, it might not fit. I think that brace thing I mentioned might connect to the diff then the one in the link.

Our diffs already have fins, about half as big as those. But still, $115 for a cast piece that does very little over stock?

our aluminum diff covers have no fins...but I agree that it won't do much in most cases.

Would anyone know for sure how hard it is to remove the diff cover? I couldn't find any info in the repair manual.

I was under the car yesterday reinstalling my exhaust. I'm 99% sure we have finned diffs. Then again I have an 08 V36 sedan with Gulf specifications so that may be it. I'll try to find a pic of the stock unit.

Here is a picture of Her 2008 Coupe. I believe it's made out of aluminum (and a thick chunk at that). It looks to be structural to the housing. There are no fins. She wanted me to take it off and paint it red (I do that with all my trucks and muscle cars) but I told Her if we do anything, it would be to polish it. I also told Her it isn't going to happen. There is no way you can see the thing with the car on the ground. Also, I think there are four or five other fluids on the car that have more heat issues than the rear diff. fluid. It does have a really nice drain in the cover. Taking the entire thing off means new fluid and getting to all those bolts might be problematic (if I remember right).

I did a quick look in the shop manual and it probably has everything you need to know. The only section that talks about removing the rear cover already has the unit out of the car (axels removed) and then it says to remove the side flanges before it mentions the rear cover. It also talks about using a seal cutter to get the cover off. The more I look at it, the more I question how simple a swap this is.

I just looked under my car just now and my diff cover IS FINNED.
it's finned where the black part is. As i've said my car is a GCC spec and we have a lot of add ons which you guys dont>

F/R parking sensors
Side markers
Amber rear turn signals
Oil cooler
Bigger radiator
Bigger coolant reservoir
and now my newest discovery, finned diff cover haha

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the fluid in the sport model with limited slip uses synthetic lube. Shouldn't that substantially reduce any chance of heat problems?
