Limp Mode
OK so everyone knows I have a sickness when it comes to modding so I have another question....I noticed that Forgedperformance has an oil pan spacer for the G37. Could this possibly help the car fight the limp mode by keeping oil cooler on our track days??? It goes for $199.00

Dude, I had the same problem last night! Maybe those little blue pills will help! :bowrofl:
|
Doubt it will help the limp mode problem.. But the oil pan spacer will put I believe and extra quart of oil in you motor witch is a great thing when your pushing your car... Just make sure when you install it that all of the bolts are torqued down to the reccommended specs.. Last thing you want is an oil leak... Those suck big time

Probably the single biggest help would be if Stillen(or someone else) releases an oil cooler for the G37. I emailed them about it and got a generic response about how they don't have one right now but may in the future.

Cool, I'll contact Stillen and put the word in too.

for a second i thought the thread title meant something else

Sounds good....if you can make one and track it with no limp mode then we will know for sure....at this point, nobody can say for sure if the oil cooler will do the trick. I've called Technosquare and Tadashi had no idea either. I'd definately buy a kit from you if it works out.

So would I... Limp mode sucks azz... You member right Dustin? I was freakin out at Palomar!!! LOL
|
They're fairly easy to make and a lot cheaper than application specific oil cooler kits. However you've got to take on all of the engineering work yourself to get it to work.

Yeah :) It happened to me once after a long day on the track and I wasn't happy.

Just did a quick search but didn't find an answer... but has anyone confirmed that the oil temps are causing the limp mode?

Hrrrrmmm... I can't imagine the ECU shutting it down just because of lots of high revs and hard braking. Limp mode is usually some sort of safety device to protect the powertrain/drivetrain. One of the sensors has to trigger this.
If we already have an oil cooler, maybe it's not up to the task of serious track use. Maybe it's something even more simple like coolant temps, and we just need a low temp t-stat. :confused2: 'Los |
The dealer can install Stillen parts and it doesn't void the Infiniti warranty. That would be the advantage over DIY.

Oil Cooler
That stock oil cooler is really what some call a heat exchanger. It is designed more to bring the oil temperature up quickly. It uses engine coolant to do that. It circulates the oil and coolant thru a heat exchanger constantly to keep them both at a relative same temperature. It works because the coolant heats up way faster than the oil. This helps the car by getting the oil temperature up to optimal operating temperature faster.
It can keep the oil cooler but only as cool as the coolant. An external oil to air cooler might lower the oil temperature 20 degrees. Oil works best at a high temperature but not over 240 I think. So like 220 is good but may 200 is better. |
the stillen G35 cooler claims a 30-40 degree heat reduction, which would probably be plenty.
|
Is it applicable to the G37? I sent an email to Stillen requesting info on an oil cooler for the G37 - but haven't heard back yet.
|
Josh from Stillen said on another post that Stillen will have an oil cooler for our G's early 2009. :)

Limp mode sounds like a MAF sensor or the likes
