Where is your RPM when going 50, 60, 70, and 80 mph?

Hi everyone,

The next time you're driving at these speeds would you please make note on the RPM and let me know?

I feel as the RPM seems to be higher than normal on my G37.

Thanks for your help.

Its very important to state wether you are 6MT or auto... My tach sits right around 3K at 80mph

I'm at 3k at 75 mph in my Auto, probably a little better fuel economy on the hwy for a manual, with that lower RPM range.

Sorry about that.

It's a AUTO.

Also, what should the RPM be at those speeds, if anyone knows?

CarAddict 05-22-2008 10:44 PM

3K at 75 is normal!!

Mr_Ryte 05-22-2008 11:27 PM

Unfortunately because of the gearing ratios; 3K is the normal engine speed of the G37 around 75-80 mph. As for why Infiniti chose to do that.......:dunno:

It is a high rev engine... :) Stop worring about the RPMs. Not all cars RPMs are the same so if this runs higher than your other vehicles it doesn't mean it is a bad thing.

Thank you for your input everyone.

I have a 5AT. tach is axactly 3k RPM while at 88 mph (140 Km/h). I was on cruise control.

Hope that helps

Umm how is that possible? - that's lower RPMs than with the 6MT. 88MPH should have a 5AT reving to at lease 3.6k RPM. Even with my 6th gear I rev to 3k at 80MPH.

Gamedog 05-27-2008 01:38 PM

^ Yeah I know me too....

CarAddict 05-27-2008 07:59 PM

I think he was going downhill on cruise control and that's why the RPM was at 3K!!

The engine varies the RPM based on how much engine power you need to keep the speed at the certain rate. When going downhill the engine doesn't have to work as hard to keep the speed at 80!!

My car sits at 3K RPM @ 70-75mph and about 3200 RPM @ 80 MPH. I'm 5 AT btw.

Hey Detroit 37,

I was on level highway. AC on, cruise control engaged. It was a windy day as well. (Not that it would have made a difference).

I have a pic of my dash at that speed. I could email it to you if you like.

However i think there are certain veriables that could change that +/- 200 rpm. But I think anything more that might be weird.

Most every 5AT owner on this forum will agree that even 80MPH will yield a 3.2k RPM at minimum, let alone 3.0k at 88 MPH with the A/C on. I mean if you're sure of it then good for your 5AT - it can do what apparently 99 out of 100 5AT's can't. But you don't have to send a pic or prove it or anything it's not that big a deal....It's just that according to the setup and gear ratios of a 5AT it should be revving higher. What you are quoting sounds like what a 7AT could do, a 7AT G37 I could see being at 3k RPMs at 90 MPH.
