So what's the general consensus on breaking in our cars?
 

I've heard from a bunch of different people, a bunch of different mileage when it comes to breaking in our cars. They range from 800 miles to 1500 miles...what did you guys wait until?

So far I've got 1232 miles, and I was waiting for the 1250 mark... I still havent taken it past 4000...I think once I might have accidentally went to 4200rpm, but never farther than that. I'm itching to feel some TORQUE

lol that doesn't help me too much bro-ham. I would have drove it hard since mile 1 if it were a lease, but I'm financing.

It's a very personal thing, I've noticed. I don't think more than 500 miles are necessary on a modern engine, which are supposedly run at WOT before going into the cars. Demo cars are run like hell since mile 1, and don't fall apart.

More than the engine, it's the brakes IMO. I usually go relatively easy for the first 500 miles, then change the oil and drive it normally, with quick WOT runs. If you want to top it out, then I'd wait until 1K, but might not even be necessary. Read manufacturers recommend a break-in period mostly for liability reasons, and to 'force' owners to know their cars well before starting to drive it aggressively; makes sense to me. Let's see what other folks say. Take care.

Your car is well broken in so DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT.

Infiniti's recommendation is to break it in like you did for 1200 miles. After that drive however you like. I did. At 8K now with no issues.

Not another one of these threads....if you are looking for recommendations then do what Infiniti recommends. Personally I would drive like you would normally. The main concern is not the engine when braking her in but other things like the brakes.

General concensus is that we dont need another one of these threads. Some say 500, some say 1000, then some say 1200. Either way you are over 1200 and the car is under warrenty for another 4 years. Drive it however you want

So DiamondG, was this a remark about me being wrong? This could be taken two ways so I want to know what way you meant it. It seems like you think what I said about the brakes is wrong and idiotic. Please post and let me know exactly what you meant by your post. I'm not too sure which of your previous posts you are refering too but I assure you anything I say should not be taken in a manner such that I am coming off as "insulting." Furthermore, I'd suggest you let it go everytime instead of assuming I'm trying to bash you and as a result you feel the need to rip me a new one.. I've honestly never heard anything about a break-in periods for breaks. Did you read this from the manual or from where? I'm genuinely interested in knowing why you made that statement and what exactly you meant by it.

You want to break them in so that you don't glaze your pads, which would reduce feel & performance. You break them in by basically being light on your brakes for the 1st ~200 miles or so.

Yep... a couple hundred miles of being easy on the brakes so the pads don't glaze over. Glazed pads can be bad news when you need them the most. Been there. Almost a very bad day for me and my SS.

JUST BROKE HER IN!!! Took her out on US-1 here in south miami and God damn, I couldn't believe I was driving the same car! I love the torque that kicks in around 4500rpm, I'm in love all over again!
