Hard shift from 2nd to 3rd gear

I noticed a hard shift from 2nd to 3rd in the manual mode at about 3500 RPM!

Anyone experienced that at all? What could be the problem? :confused2:

1000% Normal, no worries.

I hear a knocking sound when it shifts. Do you think it's because I shift too early?

I never heard a knocking sound. By the way, stay on the gas when up shifting in MM, don't lift. It makes the shifts smoother and faster.

Yeh. Happened to my car too. After I got my 1st oil change, it seems to stop. It's weird cuz that has nothing to do with the tranny. But I do wonder why it does that in our G?

Yeah I stay on the gas when shifting. We have an M35 as well and I'm used to the manual mode. But the knocking sound (hard shift) seems to be happening when I shift below 4K RPM!! Very strange!

If you don't want your car to slam into third gear when in MM, you need to let off the gas while you shift. If you upshift while pressing the gas your going to feel a hard shift. I don't know what causes this and why it only happends in third gear but theres nothing wrong with your tranny.

So what is it? Foot on gas or off gas???

Off, its only going to hit hard with your foot on the gas in the middle of the band line.

DiamondG, I hope you are right and there is nothing wrong with the tranny. But I have to say that I didn't experience this with the M35. I mean what's the use of the manual mode if we have to let go of the gas when shifting. Does is say anywhere in the manuals, at what RPM we should or we should not do the manual shift on hard acceleration?

The whole center console shook yesterday when I did a shift from 2 to 3!!! :(

I dont know what to tell you.. I felt this constantly in my G35 I thought maybe I did mess it up, I drove it like crazy, had 80,000 miles but after I picked up my G37 and it did it the first day I knew thats just the way it was going to be.. It really only happens within a 500 RPM area right after 2500 (I think?) so just ease of the gas, shift or wait for a higher RPMs before shifting.. By all means if you beleive something is wrong ( I don't know if the G35 has the same tranny as the M35, can't imagine it being different? )than take it by Infiniti and see what they have to say.. Have them check the fluid levels etc..

Not in MM hard shift

Hey guys just got my 37x S. absolutely love it as I’ve always had a truck and not been a fan of cars. When I am just in regular driving mode only once in a while will it shift hard from 2nd to 3rd literally jolting your head. I realized by leading off the gas when the RPMs are getting too high helps but would there be a reason that this only does it once in a while? And most of the time only when I’m driving easy through the city. Also how can I check my transmission levels and top them up? Thanks in advance
