K&N Filters

What is the part number for the K&N OEM replacement filters for the G37? I havent found the G37 listed on the K&N website. Is the filter the same as the G35 coupe?

finagle69 09-29-2007 11:43 PM

if anything, it'd be the same part number as the 07 G35 Sedan as they're nearly the same intake setup.

Just out of curiousity, why would you change from the stock air filter?

finagle69 09-30-2007 12:09 PM

the theory is K&Ns are designed for performance. they allow more air flow while still protecting the engine from particles, thus effecting more HP/TQ due to the increase in airflow. plus, they carry a lifetime guarantee and never need replacing, just a cleaning. this is the theory, for what it's worth.

I am aware of the theory, and have used K&N's before, but I have never seen any test, other than K&N's own tests, that validate their claims. You have to oil the K&N filters, and oil attracts dirt, and the more dirt on the filter, the less air flows through it.

Then read link shown in below and it'll change everyone's mind about changing their OEM filter with aftermarket intake systems.

Thanks for the support. Somewhere there is a published white paper on the air flow through the 2007 G35's dual air intake system. It is the equivalent, or better, than the CAI systems available at the time of the test. Bottom line was that there will be little or no gains from switching to a CAI system on this engine or putting in anything other than a top quality stock-type air filter.

Just be carefull with the Stillen intakes, and any oiled filter for that matter... when i supercharged my G, i had a MASSIVE problem with Stillen over oiling the intake filter and the MAF getting the wrong reading, the car was constantly stalling and it was a PIA !!!!

Let them all do what they want. Remember, we've tried to give some direction, but if people are going to be stubborn about this, then just forget it, let them find out the hard way. Then they'll be right back here asking us, trying to figure out why their car blew up or something.

I'll go get the popcorn started...

this test was on a Diesel Duramax engine. Not a vqhdg37 motor , I can't & don't see the same results on a gasoline powered engine, then maybe you are reading something that I am misisng. if this test was on any vq motor or similar engine you would have a point. Personally have use Stillen products on several diff. g's all they make is first grade quality products. No "dirty oil in my cars" they have been making engine mods for years @ www.stillen.com. They were the first ones to get their hands on one a g37 direclty from infitinti factory & mod the crap out it. There is also something called truth in advertising. If everyone's claim's are not true how can you have so many company's making these intakes & without ANY issue, other than HYDROLOCK. (Water getting sucked into intake, this is not a problem for the g37 it is mounted all the way at the top of the engine bay)your statement of "EVERYONE WHO HAS AN INTAKE KIT IS NOT GETTING ANY HP GAINS WITHOUT HEAVY MODDING ". is not correct & so it is a true 9hp gain without modding out engine, it does sound great & without a doubt there is a differance @ bottom end at full throttle, all the way up the tach.So your point of dirt makes not a bit a sense to me. Show me a similar test an a vq motor, then you will have made an apples to apples.

Really the only benifit of using the K&N's is the simple fact they will save you money in the long run by not having to replace them. Other then that its not really worth it. Your better off saving the money and buying a quality intake system when one is released...

madmikeg37 11-05-2007 09:13 AM

the only benefit is saving money ? ok if you say so, I mean I guess its; new so it doesn't work. Wait for a better system, better how? I guess i like to waste cash.
