New TCM or update?

Hi guys! This is my first post and would appreciate some clarity on the topic. I have a ‘11 g37 base 7 speed and will..... be doing a 6 speed conversion. I know the task is daunting and could be overwhelming, but I priced the parts from various sites and could do it for ~$3k and many, many hours of labor. Before/after the swap can I just update/reprogram the TCM and ECU or would I have to replace both?

What's your reason for doing the swap?
