The G really does like 93 octane gas

I tried 93 for one month with my previous 06 G35
Aside from the added cost my MPG dropped so I went back to using 87
My current 2012 G37S has never seen a drop of 93
I only use 87 and it runs fine with good MPG
I mainly purchase my gas here with excellent results
At a $.43 cent a gallon difference in price it is a waste of money in my opinion

I only use Shell 93 octane V-power Nitro + .
I have Ecutek Visconti custom map tune and he recommend an octane booster if I use MaP 4. (Most aggresive map) I use Map 4 as my DD map with just Shell V power and no octane booster. I do not see any signs of knock even if I redline the car....(no flashing/blinking CEL if shows knock)

The VQ37VHR perhaps recommends 91 but my VQ35HR recommends 93 in the owner's manual. I can't help but feel like I'm losing some of the power/efficiency I paid for because of the unavailability of 93 in California.
Also, why buy a luxury sports sedan if you're trying to save $250 a year on gas by retarding your timing and efficiency with 87? Doesn't make sense to me.. you'd be much better of just teaching yourself to drive more fuel efficiently.

Even though the G35 may have called for 91, I really didn't see and/or feel any difference pumping 87. Car ran same, and still runs fine at 250,000... no issues with the engine.
Also, not sure if this comment you made towards someone specific or not, "trying to save $250 a year on gas by retarding your timing and efficiency with 87"
But in my example, it made no difference that I could feel on the car. Plus I am sure I saved much more than $250 for the year.. probably at least $800.
I DO NOT put anything but 93 into my G37 especially since I adv. the timing in the first place.

When I bought the G37 earlier this year in CA I had it Uprev tuned (91) and was making decent power to the wheels - I think it was dyno'd at 299whp, I'll have to look up the dyno sheet...anyways, prior to me shipping the car to CT, I went back to my tuner and we did a road tune and he changed up my maps: Map 1, sport-aggressive: 93 octane. Map 2 stock, Map 3, sport: 91 octane - just in case I take a road trip back to CA where 93 isn't available) Map 4 Valet, Map 5 anti-theft
when I got the car delivered to CT a few months ago, I filled up with 93 and switched over to Map 1..... felt the difference after a few miles on the hwy.... also during the summer months, the car still felt strong....I'll be adding more to the car and when I find a tuner in my area, I'll get the car dyno'd again...
as far as price for gas, I remember paying over $3.70 for 91 back in CA, but here the 93 I'm paying approx $2.60.....
