Thanks for this write-up! I just finished the 3x drain and refill, although I should have gotten a 4th gallon. Only wound up pushing about 11qts through, but the car shifts much nicer now, and that fluid was nasty at 66,000 miles. I did use the DIY fluid pump which made the job much easier.

I wanted to post this to help save some other members a little money. The fill adapter can be replaced with this hose barb

Hose barb

in between fills while the car was running for 3 minutes, I used a 3" piece of hose (same hose that the diy fluid pump uses) that was plugged with a bolt to keep fluid from leaking, and then I didn't have to keep swapping the fill plug with the barb. Thanks again for the great write up! Transmissions have always been something I've stayed away from, but this helped me tackle it and save money from the dealership

Glad it worked out well, and always best to get to know your car a little better along the way

Awesome suggestion on the hose barb. I'll definitely use this idea next time. Will make things a lot easier. I'll just clamp the hose in between drain/fill steps and remove the hose barb at the very end when setting the fluid level replacing it with the plug. Thank you for posting and sharing your experience!

The results have just came in and here is the UOA for the ATF I had drained. Multiplying wear numbers by 5.09 (32000/6282) gives results close to the universal average numbers. There is nothing exciting in the numbers, they are just average. Nevertheless, it will be a good reference point in the future, especially comparing Matic-S to Amsoil Fuel-Efficient ATF.

Here are Matic-S UOA results posted on BITOG by someone else

Hey, thank you for this awesome post! Have you had the chance to compare Amsoil and Matic S wear numbers? Please let us know as that information can be very very helpful!

I would go ahead and perform the full 3x drain & fill detailed in the first section of this thread including dropping the pan for a cleaning.

If you don't feel that you or a friend could do this I'd go to a Nissan dealer and have them perform the service, not a flush though, just the service listed in the FSM.

As far as how to get the fluid to the proper level, it's in the first section of this thread.

Just saw this link with an excel spreadsheet that can calculate the percentage of new fluid in a transmission flush. Helpful to know how much of the old fluid is still in your mix after 3x drain & fill

Hey Helikido. I did collect Amsoil ATF sample during the last drain and fill, and it had been sitting on the shelf for almost a year. So, I sent it to Blackstone Labs yesterday, after seeing your post a couple of days prior. Let's give it probably until early next week to get the results.
