awesome write up! I've been reading this thread and researching other forums (370Z) so I think I have a good idea on how to get this done. I went to the dealer in order to get an idea what they would charge for a drain/fill and got some surprising information.

Firstly, they indicated that they do not do the simple drain/fill. Instead, they prefer doing the power flush ($299). I said that it was strange for Infiniti to offer power flushes since I heard it was not recommended. I was told that ever dealer has different policies. LOL. I then asked, "how would one know if their transmission fluid is low?" and I was told that the tech would need to verify fluid levels by using the Consult tool. I then asked, "why does Infiniti indicate that the 7AT is non-serviceable when in fact it is?"
....crickets. Then I was told there is no trans oil filter which makes the transmission non-serviceable. I remained calm and was laughing inside since I know THERE IS a trans oil filter. It just reaffirmed my belief that the majority of the dealers/service advisors do not have a good understanding of what is/isn't available.

Next, after some going back and forth, I was informed that they will be able to 'top - off' transmission fluid if requested by the customer. I was informed that it would involve the tech's rate ($130) and approx $11 per quart - as needed. unbelievable.

Anyway, here's what I found since my dealer encounter:

1. A reputable transmission shop (I've contacted 3 in my area) can charge an average of $220 - $300 for the following: drain/drop trans pan, clean pan, refill trans fluid with compatible trans fluid to Matic S

2. Replacement Trans oil filter is available for the 7AT - I've attached the link to the catalog in which you will find the replacement for our 7AT (RE7R01A) ... just do a 'control F' on the pdf to bring up our specific trans part. The phone number to call is listed as: 800-568-0330

I'm at 60K miles right now so I plan on dropping the trans pan in the near future to do the service (change fluid, clean pan, replace trans oil gasket).

I searched high & low w/ no luck. Luckily my filter looked real good, no sludge buildup or noticeable deposits from what I could see.

thank you kind sir! I appreciate you and the OP's DIY notation to this 'mystery' fluid change that Infiniti keeps from us...LOL. I'm old school, so I know that fluids do not last a lifetime. Plus changing fluids on a vehicle bought used is always something that I've done over the years.

BTW, I looked up Level 10 trans pan replacements and they only have it for the G35 (5AT). booo.

Thanks to this thread, I did a partial fluid change this time (67K miles) sans the pan drop. Next time I plan on doing more. Good thing the original fluid came out beautiful - like new:

I measured how much came out so that I would add exactly the same amount back of the new fluid:

Hey guys, total noob here. Got a couple questions. With the 5AT, since it has a tranny dipstick, could I just refill from the dipstick instead of from the refill plug? thus eliminating the need for a oil transfer pump? also, what did you guys use to clean your pan? can it be sprayed down with brake cleaner? Thanks

When I cleaned my pan just used some paper towels, it cleaned up real well, as did the magnets, then a final wipe down w/ a lint free cloth.

Do you guys always replace your crush washers? ( drain plug gaskets) I've read that some do, some don't. Is it absolutely necessary? also, are the drain plug gaskets the same size for both oil drain plug and trans fluid drain plug. Thanks

I didn't change mine, and change my oil crush washers only a 2-3x in 80k miles, never had any leaks.

ok thanks blnewt. Would you happen to know if the crush washers are the same size for both the oil drain plug and trans fluid drain plug. I did a google search and couldn't come up with a definite answer. I found a few online retailers that sell "oil drain plug gaskets" but nothing stating that they are specifically for just the "oil drain plug". So I can only assume that these are universal and can be used for both applications :dunno:
