Bent Inner Tie Rod End

The Issue: Bent Inner Tie Rod on front driver side

The Question: How hard would it be to replace this myself? (special tools needed? or just a basic tool set)

The Story: Some beeotch merged blindly into my lane last night and ran me off the road (to avoid collision). It was raining so that didn't make **** any better. I hit the curb at about 20-30mph. I got an estimate at Firestone because this damn college town doesn't have an Infiniti dealership. They said about $448~ for part, install, and alignment. Is this right? I looked at infinitpartsusa.com and the part is only $66. I'm not a cheap *** so I will pay this if it sounds about right. I am also no fool to be ripped off either so I will do what I can on my part and save some money and just get an alignment done afterwards.

"Inner Tie Rod"?

The steering rack has to come out.
Not a DIY for the faint of heart.

The rack does NOT have to come out but a special tool is necessary to remove the inner tie rod. Pretty easy job if you have the right tools. I would estimate about 1.5 to 2.0 hours labor ($100-$120 an hour) plus an alignment. 448 sounds a bit high.

Thanks for the response. Guess I have no choice but to let a shop fix it then.

If you hit the curb at 20 to 30 MPH, Im thinking a bent steering knuckle, and lower control arm too. Have you checked the wheel for being bent??

A bent inner tie rod would result in excessive wheel toe out.
How does the camber look by eye??

They have already inspected it and only found 1 fault so far... would not surprise me if they keep on tacking **** onto it. The wheel has curb rash on it. It is on the front driver so I did not look too hard at camber because it out of alignment pretty bad.

Does your town have a Nissan dealership??
Suspension on a G is mostly identical to a Z, and they can get the right parts.

Yes they do have a Nissan dealership here now that think about it. I'll give them a call. Thanks for reminding me.
