Most people are using the Mobile 1 75-90, is that fully synthetic? I called the dealerships and almost all answered me that they all use Pennzoil 1.5 quarts. They all carry bulks, and have no particular lineup. Online there are different types from that brand. The closest I found is Pennzoil Gearplus SAE 80W-90 GL-5. I guess that is what they use. I'll read again why 75-90 is OK to use LOL. I work in the medical field. Anyone tried Royal Purple 01300 Max Gear 75W-90 High Performance Synthetic Automotive Gear Oil?

Black Betty,

I am new to the forum, but I am confused on this thread. Title is about gear oil changing. then this member talks about a correction to Transmission clarification and you also posted a pic of Amsoil Transmission fluid. but I never saw any instructions for the transmission, just the rear end?

What am I not seeing?

Thanks

Friction modifier has been talked about in this thread. I just looked at the actual Infiniti Service Manual and no where does it state that this is needed here is the actual recommendations:

For 7A/T 2WD models:
API GL-5 Synthetic Gear Oil, Viscosity SAE
75W-90
Except for 7A/T 2WD models:
Genuine NISSAN Differential Oil Hypoid
Super GL-5 80W-90 or API GL-5, Viscosity
SAE 80W-90

I am going to get the Redline with the additive already in it but I was wondering where did anyone read it was necessary? I suppose everyone is assuming it is necessary if there is chatter....which I agree. However unlike some performance cars that require /recommend it.... it does not seem to be an additive that Inifiniti is even recommending.

If anyone has documented proof that I missed somewhere please let us all know...THANKS!

just did front & rear diff fluid today. i jacked up the passenger side of the car (several times! - probably would have been easier to just put it on 4 jack stands, but i like doing things the hard way. )

some notes:

- rear plugs a bear to get off, needed to jack up the car so i could get a piece of pipe on the hex wrench, otherwise could have done it with the car on the ground. squirted fluid in using the Mobil 1 bottles.

- front plugs also a PITA, had to jack up as well to get a pipe on the ratchet. used a 10mm hex socket and an extension. first extension was too long, but found a shorter one that worked well. there's a lot of stuff in the way of the fill plug, so this was the only way to get in there. used the Harbor Freight fluid pump to get the oil in - no room to squeeze it directly from the bottle.

now i have to clean up the garage ....

i believe it said on bottle of the particular brand of gear oil (Redline?) that someone was using, that if chatter occurs, use the additive - had nothing to do with Infiniti or service manuals.

Dont forget washer & not let it drop in drain pan
i was able to change my differential oil today. no jack. 2010 g37 sedan journey w/ factory 17 inch wheel. i use mobil 1 75w-90

pic 1- my usual oil pan for engine oil change. couldn't get it under car. had to use something else (pic 2)

pic 2 - draining the oil w/ aluminum container (can be found at walmart ). work better.

pic 3 - right one is drain plug & left is fill plug

pic 4- pump

Word of advice: have an assistant to help w/ filling the oil to reduce messy garage & easy clean up

Question: is there a way for me to check the fluid in case i didn't put enough in? without removing the fill plug... can i detect low fluid simply by driving test? thanks.

You fill it until it comes out of the fill hole. That's full. There no other way to check it.

What about using a funnel, tubing and letting gravity do its job? I used a motive power bleeder type device to force fluid into the diff and mt last time. It worked well but took a long time due to the small diameter of the pickup tube. I figure a length of tubing with an ID of 1/2" and a funnel up high should work well.

I just used Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W90. Just squeeze the bottle and it fills fast! Like BB said, when it runs out, you're good!

I actually did it at beginning but it was tight in space. Bottle had to go over right exhaust pipe.

My 2nd time doing this should go smoother

I would jack up car (rear), jack stand then loose the fill & drain plug NOT remove. Jacking up car allow for breaker bar use. Put car back down & drain (15 - 30 min). Fill with pump with assistance. Put plugs back n & jack it up for torque. Don't forget to drive around for 15 min b4 starting. Thanks 4 DIY

I was also able to change the differential oil on my car without jacking it up. Car is a 2010 G37S coupe with about 50,000 miles on it.

I bought the pump from autozone, and two bottles of Lucas oil 75W-90 synthetic diff. oil.

There was room for me to stand up the 1 quart bottle underneath the car, so I did the pumping myself with one hand and other other hand hold the tube in place inside the fill hole.

Not a difficult job at all.

Thanks to everyone who did it before me that I learned from...especially the original author BB

It's hard for me to identify whether I have LSD differentials on my G37X AWD Sedan. I would like to purchase Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 for both front and rear differentials. Is this product OK to use in my car in the event I don't have LSD?

I just bought Motul 75w 140. Will this work for my sport? Cobb recommended it since I do plan on going to a few track days.
