Radar Detectors (Worth Buying?)

Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a radar detector because its hard not to go fast in my G. Is it worth it though because I heard that cops just wait till you get close before turning on their radar guns leaving the detector pretty useless. If they are worth buying what are some good reputable brands? Thanks a lot.

I never had any radar since owning my G, i just know my area well where it is ok to do occasional wot and where there are no cops. IMO, it is not necessary. If you are super concern, waze app tells you whenever there are cops miles ahead.

I know vegas pretty well but there are still hidden spots. I drive out to cali quite a bit and so on the long drives id like to speed and also be able to spot cops long before they see me. I'll check out that waze app though. Thanks

Waze app is great if the cop is stationary and for other speed trap scenarios (50 MPH to a sudden 35 MPH zone for example). If you're on a back-road or an area with little traffic (and updates) then you're flying blind since there's not frequent updates. Also, if the officer is moving and you pass him in the opposing lane you're got.

Would get something that picks up ka and laser with X and K band capability when driving through a small town. Can always turn the X and K off to eliminate the false alarms. I'd set a budget of about $2-300 and see where that gets me. Between those two precautions, should be fine.

I have a V1 in my car and a Escort 9500ix in my wife's car. Both are great and each have pros and cons.

The V1 falses more and it helps if you actually monitor the arrows and counters.

The escort has less falses, and supposedly uses GPS to tag and suppress false alarms, but it seems to have less range.

Both detectors have paid for themselves IMO.

I think the V1 has a GPS update now that eliminates false alarms. Could be worth checking out. The RX65 is what I use in our cars. Between Waze and the RD I'm pretty much covered.

I was nailed once for speeding at 18. Expensive lesson learned but since then - 3 speed traps. Waze let me down with 0 reports but they weren't highly traveled roads.

K band saves me everyday.
k band lets you know cops are around so be cool as for laser hit or miss but k band for locals saved my wallet many times over
