Well do the new 3-Series up there have LED plate lights? I'm not sure how many Lexus's are roaming as compared to BMW's, but if those cars have them from the factory, I couldn't imagine getting introuble as long as the light isn't too blue.

The laws regarding driving and vehicules are local to each province. There is no "national" law regarding this; just like the US (everything is regulateed at the state level).

What province are you in that you would like to know this?

This is the section of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act you are interested in:

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/sta...es_90h08_e.htm

Specifically section 62, subsection 19. The only color allowed is white.

Quoting :

Rear lamps to illuminate number plate
(19) The lamp on the rear of a motor vehicle or trailer shall be of at least three candela and shall be so placed that it will, at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 150 metres or less, illuminate the numbers on the number plate, or, if provision is made on the number plate or on any attachment furnished or required by the Ministry for affixing the lamp, it shall be affixed in the position or space provided, and the lamp shall face to the rear and reflect on the number plate a white light only. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 62 (19).

I think the super white led would still be ok, i think you easiest chance to find out, besides asking a police officer, is to see what the Lexus's and BMW's have for plate lights. they come from the factory with the led bulbs, i know they wouldn't be aloud to sell them in canada like that if there were any problems.
