Price Paid versus Edmunds Apprasial Value
I am preparing to purchase a used 2009 G37 Journey. I have compiled some data for cars within a 200 mile radius of me for sale by private owner on sale at Criag's List and Auto Trader. With a small data sample I have observed that the asking price on CL is approximately 20% above the Edmunds Appraisal in the "Outstanding" category. For AutoTrader prices average about 30% above the Edmunds apprasial value.
For those of you that have purchased a used G37 from a private owner, have you found that you were able to negotiate a lower price or are the appraisals running on the low side in error? Thanks |
I got mine from a dealer for the price that KBB stated would be a trade in value. You just have to shop around and not be afraid to walk away. I went to the same dealer for 2 months before buying the car.

Manheim is the source dealerships use when valuing cars. Private sales are probably higher in anticipation of counter offers/low ball opening offers.

BUMP:
For those that may read in the future and desire some real sale information. I am closing today on a 2011 G37x, 102K miles, 2 owner, no accidents. Nice interior and maintenance performed on a regular basis with maintenance records in glove box. Purchase from private owner off Craig's List for $10,300. |
