On the fence -- 2008 G37xS

Ok so first drive in a used G37S coupe , black on black and a great set of comfortable seats to ride in. I took on the highway at at 120km/h the auto was I guess in 5th and still 3000 rpm or so on the tach. I am debating on passing on this one as find newer for the 7 spd auto, will it drastically lower my cruising rpm.

The car was owned by a senior , and I mean SENIOR couple since new. Heck the interior even still had the new car smell. The age of the car precludes some stuff I might like though like adaptive cruise, Sat radio, rear camera, and Nav. The kicker though, it just passed 20,000 km from new.

I know low miles is good , but I almost have to wonder if too low as the car not used to what my right foot is going to do with the go pedal on a regular basis if I buy it.

So what do the experts say , keep looking for one newer with all the toys , or pick this one up as non-abused ones not on lots all the time. I am in southern Ontario but not a major centre.

Thanks,

Pat

For us Americans, that's 12,500 miles in 8 years. The extra gears will help with cruising down the highway, but if you have a lead foot that hardly matters. The car's ECU will also adapt to your driving habits (if anything just reset it). It'd be ideal if you can find a 2012+ with low mileage since they have the updated timing cover gaskets. Otherwise, I'd jump on this mint example given the right price. Which points to one question...

How much is he asking?

Or go with a 6MT where you can rev to wherever you want it to be

pricha00 05-19-2016 05:43 PM

The dealership asking a hair under 20K so OTD with our bs taxes about 23K. I would gather with exchange say $18K in USA dollars.

Well bad news, I wasn't aware they would allow a sales agreement conditional on financing, so another buyer scooped the Sunday after I drove it. I was not happy sold outside business hours as I drove just before closing in Saturday, and went back in Monday at opening to get the news car was tentatively sold. Today they are saying supposed to bring funds next Tuesday, holy crap over a week they will hold car with a line of people interested.

As to the 6MT comment, love stick, own Jetta TDI and 5.0 ( both 5spd ) , but as I approach 50 would like to relax a little when cruising, plus the wife can drive once in awhile.

Well cheers , and I will be on the hunt again. TBH wasn't even really seeking a G37 but must say it drove terrific, though the car is definitely wrapped around the occupants. My wife described as almost claustrophobic.

Pat.

Best of luck with the search Pat... hope you're able to find the car you're looking for.

When our dollar is down there's a ton of Americans buying used cars up here and reselling in the states because of how good the deals are with the exchange rate.

Congrats with the purchase! The obsidian black paint looks astonishingly fresh, I'm actually a little jealous. Can you share how you bargained from $20k USD to $15k?

kennyz424 05-28-2016 11:25 PM

He didn't bargain 20k usd to 15k usd it was 20k Canadian dollars which equals 15 American dollars. That sports coupe looks amazing though Pat! Congratulations on a killer deal! What year is the year and how many miles does it have?

pricha00 05-29-2016 06:35 AM

The car is 2008. I just rolled over 21,000km with it so a few yards over 13,000 miles on it. Is 5 spd auto, Bose audio and sunroof.

Yes asking was 19,888 plus our 13% tax = $22,475 plus license fees. The one wheel has mark on spoke ( curb?? ) and tires are factory ( so will need soon due to age ). They balked at $20K OTD, but did come down almost $2K as price before tax was $18,141.

So US$ is approx $14,172 before tax. You would pay that where registered anyways if exported I believe.

Pat.

It gets better, you could get a 2012 6MT sedan for ~16k USD up here.
