Today's the day

So later today (Saturday), God willing, I will join the Infiniti family. Before I do, though, I need help from my future siblings on how this whole pricing business should go.

I'm in Kansas City, and the car I want is the 2012 G37x Premium/Navi/illuminated kick plates/trunk mat/splashguards (non-sport). The list price is $43,435.

What should be my target price, out the door? TrueCar's market average is $40,761, with the dealer cost at $38,479. I'd really love to get this car for $39,000 or less out the door. Is this impossible? Doable? Should I aim lower? I need help from the community.

Bottom line: What's the price I should pay tomorrow to get a great deal on this car that the dealer will accept? I guess I'm looking for what I should shoot for tomorrow, and what I absolutely shouldn't go over.

Thanks so much for the help. Really can't wait to become a first-time Infiniti owner.

This $38 seems like a pretty good shoot for, but reasonably I think $39-40 will be the outcome. I'm not well versed in prices though, I'm sure more will chime in on it giving you a little more info. Good luck!

Dude fill out the Trucar form and they email you the price at the dealer.

I got my 6MT for $36,799 or 6kish below sticker.

It says there are no affiliated dealerships near me via TrueCar. Anyway, negotiations broke down today, and I was allowed to walk out. The sales manager came down as far as $41,000 OTD (the only blue slate cars with my above-mentioned options in stock also had the wood trim in the interior, which I'm ambivalent about), down from the MSRP of $44,500 or so. I offered as high as $38,950, before we shook hands, the manager thanked me for considering Infiniti, and we parted ways.

What should I make of this? It was a Saturday afternoon during the middle of the month and a popular model/color combo, so that might have played a part in it. It also could just be part of the game. Should I wait for a call early this week, or given that I was allowed to walk away, should I begin to look at dealerships in other markets?

Thanks again, everyone.

Are you serious? 41K OTD means after TTL or about 38K +TTL assuming that your tax rate is about 7%. That's 6.5K off the MSRP.

You offered 38,950 so, you want to get that car for 8.5K under sticker or 36K + TTL. I think you probably cat get 8.5K off in Nov. or Dec. :52:

Edit. BTW, truecar in Philly offers 40,500 + TTL for this car.

A couple of things to consider. Trucar isn't better deals than what's out there, it just lets you know what dealer are doing. So looking at that helps you understand what the going rate for cars you are interest are.

1. You don't have to buy from the dealer down the street. Go on trucar and find a dealer close that does offer pricing.

2. 41K out the door on a 44k car is a great deal! Mine was basically 36K on a 42K car but that wasn't take. Since your car is 2k more that deal seems pretty solid. Your offer of 38,950 might be a deal if they need to make a # but honestly not a good deal for them to take at certain times.

After looking at Trucar that deal of 41K out the door is solid and better than most deals out there...if you really want that car it will be hard to beat other than maybe them throwing in some oil changes to make you feel better.

^What they said. $41k was a good deal. Invoice is $40k, there's a $1k rebate available, that puts you at $39k. Add your tax/title/and licensing fees. That would probably put you over $41k.

Never negotiate at the dealership. Make a phone call, fill out app online, they're washing the car while you're driving to the dealership, should be in and out within an hour.

carz Feb 13, 2012 12:16 PM

41 isnt bad considering thats with all the fees. you could push for 40.

dont let the "rare color" bs play with your head. go back at the end of the month, if the car is still there then the demand isnt that high and im sure u can squeeze a few more bucks

Tazicon Feb 13, 2012 12:22 PM

Dang you walked out on a good deal..............................

DjFromVA Feb 13, 2012 12:53 PM

Hey dude after seein what you was going to pay, it does looked like u walked out on a pretty good deal. But hey take it from me there is always a better deal out there. I was originaly gonna buy an 08 6mt g37s 40kmiles grey for 27,000 and i thought i was getting a good deal. Found the same car 2 weeks later, 08 g37s 50kmiles 6mt but i got this car for a little more than 20,000. All i had to do was travel a bit to get it. so GL

I'm sure that deal is still there. If they haven't called you back that was their best deal.

kaoticdemize Feb 15, 2012 12:40 PM

that was a good deal, should have taken it.

betterdayz Feb 15, 2012 04:02 PM

not a bad deal, in nc they would wait a few days and call and tell you that to come by and see them!!
