Anyone ever tried Costco's Auto Buying program?

I don't think I heard anyone used it on this board, if you did can you share the experience?

Costco's auto buying program is definitely very good, but you must be careful with a new model such as the G37 that the dealers are not discounting. What happens is that they do not make that model available to the program, or, as was my experience they allow only $500 off the sticker price. Normally, with a car that been around a while, they will price it $xxx above the dealer's invoice. As it was, I got my car from another dealer who gave me $1000 of the sticker price. At the time, some dealers were giving no discounts whatsoever.

They're not? They sure are.

dealers DO discount for things like costco, AAA, lots of other organizations. but most people who care to do a little work get +- invoice. no organization discount can do better than invoice. never have, never will.

VPP

Littlejoe Jan 21, 2008 03:29 PM

As I understand it VPP is about 1% above invoice

Littlejoe Jan 21, 2008 03:30 PM

Does anone know how you qualify for VPP?

Dominican_Capt Jan 21, 2008 04:02 PM

It depends on who ur employer is or if ur a relative of a employee of Nissan/Infiniti

Here's the deal. I sell hi-line cars. I know, I know..car salesmen. Whatever, I'm working on my MBA. Anyway, manufacturers offer rebates to dealerships. For instance, right now, I can sell one of my models to you for $8000 off of invoice and still make $500 from the rebate. Invoice is just a number. There will always be hold-backs you'll never know about.

$8000 off invoice or MRSP? So you can sell a $15,000MSRP civic that has an invoice for $13,000 for $5,000 and still make $500?

I know just giving a stupid example.. but where do you sell a car for $8,000 under INVOICE? I want in!

This was my experience too... I was shown the Costco pricing sheet that indicated $500 below MSRP for a G37, but other models were $500 above invoice. Also, while toying with the idea of getting a Nissan 350Z, I found the Costco price to be $500 above invoice.

I just went in and it was 250 off MSRP which was a rip

For VPP info, go to www.insidenissan.com. To qualify, you basically need to be somewhat related to a person working at NNA or the company you work for must be a business affiliate.

I went through VPP and you get either 1.65% below invoice (plans C & D) or 3.58% below (plans A & B). I was fortunate enough to get on plan A, which ended up being about 1.5-1.6K below invoice.

My friend bought his IS250 through Costco and got a pretty decent deal, so not all of their offers are bad.

I used Costcos auto buy program when I got my 335I. So I only ended up paying $1375 over Invoice.

Lower than Costco pricing...

Depending on where you're at Costco or any other club discount is a certain dollar amount above invoice. I was able to get my car 1800 BELOW invoice. How? Search this forum, find the lowest price and start CALLING dealers. Let them know you mean business and are ready to buy. Start throwing in names of other dealers that are willing to give you "X" below invoice. Get a full quote over the phone.

Dealers always make money.
