Project_V36
This will be a running build of my sedan. As many of you know ive owned a 07 nismo 350z and moved on to my 13 IPL. With the addition of a baby boy I needed a sedan. So the search began for a v36 g37 in 6mt. Very hard to find. So i came across an 08 g35 sedan which is essentially the same minus the engine. So i present to you my 08 v36 sedan in Garnet Ember Pearl A51.
fully loaded with a 6mt. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...317706f4fe.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...b4d9eb0530.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c298a86765.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...a2e5da1f82.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...d23e704495.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...8239eb77bf.jpg |

Shortly after i got her i did all the maint. Redline trans fluid. Redline diff fluid. Motul xcess 5w40. New plugs. Clean TB. Cabin filter. New endlinks around. New panel filters.

Time for some go fast! Started with Z1MOTORSPORTS test pipes but my car misfired bad with them down low. Decided to go hfc and it got alot better but still cant floor it under 3k or itll bog. The Z1 gaskets are thin and do not seal proper so i had to double them up.

Not soon after i came across a killer deal on a rear hotchkis sway bar brand new! $50 bucks. The guy threw in a 2017 nismo 370z fsb as well! Cool cat!! Wow what a difference these mods made!! Nismo fsb vs sport fsb hotchkis rsb vs rwd sport rsb. The stance!

Little interior mods. Obligatory GTR start button
drift button and leather shift boot. Shift knob and extension. woodgrain steering wheel 30mm spacer and nrg hub. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...e1d34d089c.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...70bf9f0fcd.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...ffe3b3f8a5.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c555c73c8f.jpg |
During the lull i tried the topspeed muffler delete the drone was unbearable with the HFC. Sister bought a coupe so i live vicariously through her. Really i just get to tinker on it. Some skyline livery. And a sport lip. Installed resonated short tails for her! not pictured are my diode dynamics tail as turn mod https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c813ee23aa.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...808d318fce.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...e3182f2ac1.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...28992941e7.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...7fc84332c0.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...86e2aae3a9.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c09fe94c97.jpg |
Car needed brakes shortly after i got the car i did some spirited driving and warped the rotors. Decided i would upgrade to the akebono.
also ordered some wheels. Rota slipstream 18x9.5 +38 square with 275 40 18. Achilles ATR sport 2. nice tires. Quiet ride as well. These wheels required a spacer to clear so i bought fic 10mm bolt on type. While testing it didnt look like that it would work. So i decided to do extended studs and 12mm spacer. The 12 got lost so i went on offer up and found z1 15mm so i got those to get me by. The 12 showed up today. Fitted them and theres still room so i ordered slip on 10mm. Hope it works as i dont want to decrease tire size! had to borrow my sis coupe wheels for a bit then realized the extended studs needed oem oepen end lugs! the bbk install went really smooth until i snapped a front banjo bolt! Got super lucky and the broke piece threaded right out! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...54de52c60c.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...b0309d4ebb.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...b78d45e06d.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c8e4c87569.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...2c59305fbc.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...b017bbaa29.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...cf8c95a3ff.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...9bf7de8a3a.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...74977cb28a.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...6ddd169c76.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...066baece3a.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...e53f16f93a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...0618688e62.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...71a6c63fca.jpg |

Custom fit some intakes. Not ready to drop big coin on z1 intakes so bought some cheap short ram for a z car. These go a lot further than the short rams for the G specific. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...59ec942af3.jpg

Few installs.
Torque solution shifter and z1motorsports race intakes. Shifter is a great mod. Really enhances the driving experience. The intakes make the throttle more responsive which is cool. Car feels lighter and a bit more powerful. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...fbb25ec665.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...e46f42dc8a.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...12e9e9928b.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...0a579c67b3.jpg |
Gold dei wrap. Z1motorsports race intakes. Some wire tucking and declutter.

Changing the interior so I ditched the gtr r35 OEM start button but kept the amber backlight from it.

Full catback obx grip Trimmed engine cover and painted. Uninstalled pcv delete as the gas smell was real bad with AC on. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...b1642c65f9.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...ef72cb74dd.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...b5b9cfcef3.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...6f78d009a3.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c53839fbb7.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...d16f7bd962.jpg |

Changes
Sold the mesh grill. Sold the stillen gen 3. Going to focus on OEM plus exterior. Almost parted the gen 1 front end decided not to. Purchased new headlights. Doing a spoiler delete. LT headers is a pretty bold mod. I gotta respect that. |
Thanks guys. Definitely dualing ideas with my car. I had no plans of any real go fast parts but the wife and I agreed I'd keep it a while so she gave a budget to play with. Got word my uprev software has shipped. Intakes should ship today but the couplers on Monday.
last night starter finally went out. So waiting till monday to replace it! This is for supra Taillights! https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...16e437b120.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...3f3395a27e.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...7c2d06f799.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...b3eb9d782a.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...63086ea32c.jpg |

Z1motorsports motor mounts and trans mount went in.
And Bell diff brace. will wait for good weather to install the diff bushings. anyway my starter went out and replacement set to be here Monday. If anyone is wondering about the isr headers they fit perfectly with plenty of clearance from the steering knuckle joint. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...541b0ee0d8.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...4ba8a6966b.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...a633db6994.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c8925c2846.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c8c47d8e54.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...f92833744a.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...53529531bd.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...b150d14deb.jpg |

Compared to your last set, the offset seems the same, but the new satin black finish, instead of the gunmetal, kind of softens how aggressive it looks. Also, 12 spokes look more classy (IMO) than thick 6-spokes.
Here's both one after another. Flipping back and forth... I like the new set.

2nd revision was still jerky under 3200. 3rd revision seems much better. I dont think the hesitation is there anymore. Going to data log in a bit to see if there's anymore below 32oo rpm.

Busy weekend.
fixed both drain tubes and added my oil pressure guage. Catch can diy
Followed the diy over at my350z
super easy and simple. I originally had a pcv delete and vent to atmosphere and the vapor filled the cabin with noxious fumes. Went back to stock but noticed after tuning my pcv hose had lots of moisture in them. Decided catch can. Wanted something cheap to start with so I can learn and understand the system before getting a quality unit. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...c85198fbb8.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...1a5270c51a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...6afe12fd21.jpg |
Im looking into getting Soho to tune my car right now. btw what size tires are you running? Both of your setups look good im leaning towards the look of the varrstoen, im actually thinking about going that route myself.

I used these 90deg plastic fittings from autozone for my set up. You might have to buy that and pull the fitting off and they will fit our stock PCV. Over time the heat + vacuum might cause the hose to collapse, this fitting helps prevent that because it'll be less bends over that hot area

Still muggy after drain tube repair.
pulled carpet and found some water had migrated front to back and was trapped so osmosis could not.occur. cleaned it all up now will hose her down to verify tubes are flowing proper. incase anyone was interested here's the rear drain. Tubes caswell. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...34423c50e7.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...ba3532c27d.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...d51ae7dbfa.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...5a43d10192.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...7568eefc1e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...2faefa271f.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...7a459afbdb.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...60cb3ca50f.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...a03c188ab2.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...92d8b5cb51.jpg |

Enjoying the quiet. With the carpet removed the obx exhaust was too loud. I wasnt ready to abandon my lightweight and beautification process of the interior so im buying an invidia q300. If its too loud still i have a magnaflow resonated X pipe on the shelf. |
So the interior strip was a failure in a sense and in another a blessing in disguise. Hear me out. So I needed to remove the carpet to kill mold and pickup excess water. With the carpet out I thought a good idea to remove the sound deadening for weight reduction and beautification as I thought I may leave the carpet out. Turns out that sound deadening really keeps alot a ton of road noise out. As well excessive exhaust noise. With it removed my OBx made a nasty rasp noise audible in cabin. Not to mention the sound deadening was only 8-10 pounds at most. Needless to say it was a bust, but motivated me to finally get a higher end exhaust that I've been wanting to replicate cheap.
soooooo I purchased some new sound deadening and installed that along with the now dry carpet. And a brand new motordyne catback!! All in all dont remove the sound deadening and just buy a quality exhaust the first time. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...6e34ddf417.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...9193f6b4c3.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...ddfc308d05.jpg |
Very colorful pictures. Tips are pretty. I like the round better than oval.
Do you have plans to paint your trunk, or is that the end-game? Not that you have an end-game. You just keep going and going... it's quite the hobby. |
Looks good. Also thanks for the advice I guess I'll leave that sound deadening in ;).

Diff bushing!
This took me about 8 hours because I filled the blown diff bushing up with the 2 part epoxy and that **** was like concrete. I did that to reduce slop and hold me over for 6 months until I replaced. Probably a four hourjob without the stupid epoxy. Note to anyone if you ever even think you might swap your blown diff bushing do not fill it with epoxy to hold you over. It's a nightmare to remove.
cant say i notice much difference because I also put my RSB on max stiff while I was re installing it. Will romp on it and give a review. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...9314b3fc15.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...9c51739b79.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...2de5ffc207.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...00f61521e2.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...a2284a7bf9.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...f0fdd645ae.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...e2f2ea8466.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...56f3575903.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...930127e5da.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...465e95dad4.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...e3910d3031.jpg |

Complaining about age at 33? :eek3: Certainly you're entitled, everyone is because it's all relative. Particularly when you muscle through the kind of projects you take on.
But I have to warn you, once you start complaining about your age, there's no turning back. So it's best you wait until your 40's or 50's. The longer you put that off, the less real it will feel. Trust me, someday it will be genuinely real, and you'll wish you were 33 again. /oldmanadvice |

I got better. LOL then the driveshaft hit me in the face when I was putting it all back together. I swear that working on cars now takes more of a toll and it makes me like gunsmithing a ton more - I sit at a bench. I'm not likely to gunsmith on something I have to lie under. |

I'm really missing the race shop now. No lift - I can't even put a two-poster in the garage I have now as there's not enough clearance, and my bedroom is partly above the garage. Also they cheaped out when building the house and the garage doors are barely wide enough to get through - as in 1-2" clearance total. We're investigating whether the overhead beam is solid and structural (so we can get just 1 big garage door).
This reminds me. I have a ton of extra Arisaka and Mauser small parts to put on ebay. Might be enough for a car part. |

Calipers. Debated a gloss clear coat but decided to leave satin to match the satin finish of the SSR type F Wheels. Loving the contrast. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...7a4c47a500.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...6d22995865.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...7d9c6acea3.jpg Going to port them on my own. Well mostly just get rid of the ridges not necessarily enlarging. Will polish as well. Was going to send off but decided not too pay that much and try myself. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...d17a38c2cd.jpg Injectors were gunky around the O rings. Cleaned them up. So the upper and lower plenums were filled with oil and gunk. The throttle bodies were clean as a whistle. This tells me my catch can is working and the gunk is pre catch can. I was also able to clean the cylinder and valves https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...efc146872a.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...123565ee66.jpg |

Now is the time James, pull that fender/hood seal and try to get the wiring to hide behind the seal. You'll see what I'm talking about.
Once you do start by plugin the airbag sensor first then plug the rest and try to fit it all behind the hood/fender seal. |

End of the beginning chapter.
So, my 08 sport bumper and lip are now sold marking the end of the first gen v36 sedan. Bittersweet as there aren't many to be had. Unfortunately when the mod bug bites she's nasty. Never thought I'd do it still on the fence really. As we close out gen one were slowly stumbling upon chapter 2.
test fit one headlight, other should be here today. Bumper still held up at z1motorsports. Oil cooler is in. Haven't had a chance to really test it yet but no leaks from it nor the upper oil pan where the oil P sending unit went in. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...1df6389814.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...52226fa635.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...616ef9f1fc.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...6492e4cad5.jpg Before trimming oe icc bracket https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...1c3e38a1db.jpg after trim |
Some motivation from the engine bay thread:)

hey mate
Great Thread on what you were building with your first gen. etc. Fantastic! the photos were awesome just looking into doing some body stuff for my own sedan G37, and just wanted to see if you had heard of anyone fitting a Coupe front ontu a sedan. The only reason i ask, is it *seems* that there isnt a great deal of difference between the 2 fronts. (pics related) - the top image, with the triangle circled is from a 2011 coupe (seems to be the same for all years) - the bottom image with the flat line is from the 2011 sedan (seems to be the same for all years) https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ui=...d=ii_k9hlp4qq0 https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ui=...d=ii_k9hlp4rj1 as far as i can see (and yes i need to check dimensions lol) it seems to be just a little triangle part that could be cut back, which is the difference between the 2 bumpers. have you seen or heard of anyone doing this? |
made some changes.
10+ headlights bumper grill. Used my bumper stiffeners nobody talks about needing these but the new bumper doesn't include these or the weather stripping. Also trimmed my oem crash absorber. Just the middle.tab needs trim but I trimmed my right side to accommodate the z1 25 row oil cooler and lines. Z1 toe arms so I can cut down camber and keep toe at 0. Planning on adding an aftermarket woodgrain again! Oem lip. Lower grill, fogs etc on the way. Thinking of doing a full body wrap. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...0624211a4b.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...0d05a80732.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...79808d4bf5.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...9e5eb787e0.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...0d2b77794a.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...287016bee5.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...e56df47dd6.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...1118bba4b3.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...a5d55a0928.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...19580bd71c.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...1bf8f636ee.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.myg...aa7fbd5b57.jpg |

This looks beautiful! Any tips on how you did this, i.e. materials/time? Would love to do my interior a dark red or cinnamon to keep an OEM+ look!
