Well, that sure was bittersweet.

Would have been ironic to hear it bottom out making that transition from driveway to street.

No doubt bittersweet. He took it super slow trying not to bottom it out, but the transition is so gradual at my house that I have never hit bottom.

Looks like he's still trying to figure out the clutch/flywheel judging by that slow shift to 2nd. Did the Owner say what his plans are with the car?

That was actually his second attempt down the street. I think it had been awhile since he had driven a stick shift combined with him being excited and nervous at the same time. Initially he was asking about changing the suspension back to stock and removing the tune. I quickly talked him out of that decision and he verified it with how much fun he was having driving it on the way home.

I felt that way watching my last RX-7 roll away (on a trailer).

I also have an acquaintance that bought a highly-modified RX7 that was pretty much at the sweet spot in regards to turbo, tune, suspension, and body work,,, and he spent $5k returning everything to stock and then hated it. Ruined an almost perfect car, IMHO - glad you talked this person out of that error. LOL

Sounds like he doesn't know what he is getting himself into. No reason to remove the tune and I'd recommend going with a coil over setup that may be easier on daily driving.

I find it weird that someone would buy a car like that with a bunch of aftermarket mods, and then consider putting it back to stock. Seems like a waste of money.... why wouldn't you just get a stock one?

I think he thought the tune would be more reliable stock, but he did not realize it would run awful with everything done to it. He also thought the coilovers were going to ride terribly, but these are hands down the smoothest riding Japanese coilovers I have ever seen.

Question Z1 tune?

Hey 4DRZ, I see you've left us Gs for different, more 4cyl turbo pastures with your STi, so I don't know how active you are here anymore. So here's a shot in the dark! I thought I had read somewhere you had an "experience" with doing some remote tuning with Z1 at some point? Forgive me, I tried looking through your build thread and couldn't find it. I have been known to be an idiot and miss things though. I'm wondering if you could share your experience or if you did post about it, where can I find it? Thanks in advance

Yes I found a unicorn Type RA STI in black (only 95 ever imported to the U.S.) and had to snap it up after driving it and experiencing the next level steering, braking, handling.

You have odd timing. I was recently notified of someone asking the same question about Z1 remote tunes on a post I put up in 2017 about their intakes. If you don't find it, the basics are that Jon from Z1 is a good tuner and does a good job, but trying to do it remotely is nearly impossible because Jon does NOT return phone calls or emails. If you can go directly to their shop with an appointment with Jon I am sure it will work out, but I definitely CANNOT recommend their remote tunes because you will spend months days trying to track him down each time you do a data log. The whole process took months to complete and should have been done in a day on their dyno.
