Infinit_G's G37x Sedan build
 

Hey guys,

I picked up a 2011 Infiniti g37x sedan in Liquid Platinum w/ Graphite interior this past weekend. The car has just under 38k miles and has the Nav w/premium package. So far I'm loving the car and can't believe I never looked into the VQ platform prior to now.

I'm coming over from the euro scene where my previous cars we're an Audi A5 and a VW GTI. The ladder of the two was the most in depth build i've ever done. The GTI pictured below had the following:

Engine:
Intake, USP Downpipe, Custom Cat-back Exhaust w/ Res delete, APR Tune, NGK Spark Plugs, Audi R8 Coilpacks.

Exterior:
Color matched side markers, Golf R sid skirts, Euro Golf R Grill

Suspension:
Airlift Slam Series front and rear bags w/ slam series struts
5 Gallon Tank
Dual 400cc Compressors
1/4 lines throughout
Dual Watertrap setup

My plan is to keep this very OEM+ with simple mods. I'm not going to take this as far as I did my GTI however, little things here and there will always be added. (It's a never ending cycle :D)

So my plan is:

Engine:
Intake
Axle Back exhaust

Exterior:
Front Lip (Undecided on brand)
Tinted Windows (35% Front and 20% Rear)
Change headlight housings to black (Saw this on a G Sedan in here and loved the look)

Suspension:
This is my daily driver and after being on air I don't want to go back down that route. (I know most swear its the best thing but I disagree. Thats my opinion after having airride) My initial thought is to go with Springs only (Swift most likely) But if I decide on coil-overs then probably Fortune 500, since they make AWD compatible.

Wheels:
Avant Garde
Vosson
Velgen
VMR

Still researching offsets/fitment and tire specs. My goal is to have the wheels sit flush or close to it. I dont want any issues with rubbing so I wont be going aggressive either. Just a nice subtle look to improve the daily drivability.

Alright, so I was doing some research this past week and I've narrowed down my list for coilovers. Now, the price played a factor for me in narrowing down this list considering I'll still need to grab the camber kit front and rear for around. I'm only looking for a mild drop not slammed by any means. I'm also not tracking the car, this is for daily driving only, so I want something that is reliable. I'm not looking for stock feel as that's impossible when upgrading but I do want something that wont jar and be track stiff. Options are below:

Megan:
Megan Racing Street Coilovers Infiniti G37 X AWD Coupe/Sedan (2009-2013) MR-CDK-IG09AW

K-Sport:
Ksport Kontrol Pro Coilovers Infiniti G37 X AWD (2008-2013) CIN021-KP

BC Racing:
BC Racing Coilovers Infiniti G37 AWD (G37X) [BR Type] (2009-2013) V-08

Fortune-500 is also on the list. I reached out in regards to the setup and would go with the 500 series w/ swift springs at 11k/8k springs 8" rear spring w/the extensions for the dampening. These are the top of the budget and with the camber kit the price is up there.

Yep, those are about your only options except for D2. I have Megans on my RWD for 30k + miles and they've performed well for daily spirited driving. Not sure if there's anything significantly different w/ their AWD setup :dunno:

You might also consider going w/ a Tanabe lowering spring if you're wanting it mainly to reduce the fender gap. The Tanabe springs are about the closest to OEM comfort and the milder the spring the better the OEM shocks will hold up (at least in theory).

Are the Tanabe springs compatible with the X sedan? Everywhere I looked listed compatibility with every model except the X sedan (but including the X coupe).


I've also seen some people say that springs (even mild ones) on stock shocks are less comfortable than if you buy a full setup (e.g. Fortune). Obviously that's a much bigger investment, but if that's true it might be worth it...

Yeah, I thought about springs but in the long haul I'll end up having to buy new struts once the stock ones wear out. Since I plan on keeping the car for a while my best bet is coilovers.

Long term, coilovers FTW.
All lowering options will result in a firmer ride, but at least w/ adjustable dampers you can find a good balance. The coilovers in my case were a huge upgrade from my previous lowering springs (B&G S2s, which are very similar to H&Rs in drop and rates), the springs dropped too low for easy daily driving and were too firm, and continued getting firmer as time went on.

As far as Tanabe X sedan setups, they use the same part # for all Infiniti Gs, although they don't have a specific X sedan listing, there's been a lot over on G35 driver that have done it on their G35 & G37X sedans.

First off, welcome and great build start! If I may ask, what made you jump? Esp from the power you can achieve on the GTI and A5, vs Natural Aspirated VQ?

Coils are FTMFW. I have Tanabe on my RWD, and it rides just like a sport coupe. I don't have dampening feature, but I am perfectly fine with it. My goal was smooth ride and not a track car.

Thanks for the compliments on the build. The switch from Audi to VW was simply because I was relocating to where I am now and at the time I wanted a cheaper payment. Since the price of living here in Southern, CT is quite high. With the A5 gone and the GTI in my hands, I went as far as I could with it without going to upgraded turbo and tune. Plus IMO the stage 2 tune that uses the factory K03 turbo is more than enough useful power to the FWD GTI. I couldn't mat it in 1st or 2nd gear or I'd just spin the tires. Wider wheels helped but even then more wasn't worth it to me. So, then came the purchase of a house and the thought of future. My 2 door GTI wasn't going to cut it. I loved the car but I was ready to move on. Reliability alone was an issue, so I started looking into SUV's and 4 door sedans. Then from there I narrowed my search down to something I would like to drive everyday since I commute an hour each way. SUV's in my price range were boring and pathetic. So I started looking into sedans heavily; AWD being a requirement. Now, before the A5, I was a test drive away from buying a new 370Z and I've always had a place in my heart for the VQ. I drove a 2003 350z track edition when they first came out and fell in love. My old roomates 2010 GT-R didnt help either. Thats when I landed on the Infiniti, so here I am today. hah
