Got a new G37s, need help deciding on winter tires
 

hey guys, i got my new g37s about a month ago after my g35 got totalled. I'm looking for winter tires on tirerack.com. my questions is, should i get the

Blizzak LM-25

or

Michelin
X-Ice Xi2
225/50-18

I will only use the winter ties when it actually snows not when its clear out. i just need them to get to work/school. i won't use them to travel far or any highway. im leaning towards the michelin because they offer better traction on snow and ice but from what i've read on the forums. Most of you guys arte running the blizzaks. So im trusting you guys experience on this. Thnx for the help !!!

If you run 18's, make sure you get rims that clear the Akebonos. There aren't many 18's out there that will.

As for the tires, I personally prefer the Blizzak LM-60's when it's really crappy out. I can't speak to the LM-25s, but most people run them because they have better dry traction over the LM-60s. Like you, I only run winter tires when there's heavy junk on the roads. So I went with the LM-60s.

The clearance is what I am running into as well. I think you can find a cheap set of 18" from a prior year and use spacers. I am in the same general area as you and once we get the car I will be running the winter setup from mid-Nov. to end of Feb.

I don't think spacers will do it. The lack of clearance isn't between the caliper and the spokes; it's between the caliper and the inside of the rim. The key is finding an 18" wheel with a large enough inner diameter. Search the forum; there's a lot of guys who found 18" wheels that fit.

Personally, I just picked up another set of stock 19s and threw 19" LM-60s on them. So whether it's winter or summer, my car looks the same. I just have winter rubber on one set of stockies, and summer rubber on the other.

I have a set of 350z touring v1 18's that will fit over the brakes.. i bought them for my 2010 g37s but ended up getting a deal on a another set of rims that had snows on them already. PM me if you want more info..

18's will fit fine, we sell that combo a lot.

The LM's are more sport based, lesser aggressive snow tires. You'll trade deep snow/ice traction for better clear day driving and handling. Works well in city or plowed environments where you don't see a lot of accumulation.

The Michelin is opposite. More aggressive design for harsher conditions. Works great in rural apps where you'll see covered roads and such. Will handle softer in the wheel and around corners due to the aggressive design.

Both great... just in differ ways.

Neal, is there any reason why Tire Rack does not carry the Toyo line for winter tires, in particular, the Observe Garit KX? Most dealers and tireshops are recommending installing Toyo winter tires on the G37s coupe for Ontario winters.

I'm sure there is but the do not share that with the sales staff.

I got the michelins from tirerack.com for a set of 18" rims for my G37S. Test fitted the rims beforehand and they cleared the akebonos just fine.

Which rims did you end up going with?

I read on here that someone recommended the Sport Edition A7/F10 as being pretty cost efficient with LM25s. Just trying to see what options are out there.

False. The sedan S has 18's. Offset (spoke to caliper clearance) is the issue you need to look for, not inner diameter!;) Spacers will be fine!

Hello, I know this is an old thread but seeing this, I have a problem that needs to be resolved. Will 18inch steel rims clear the 2008 g37s AT brakes?
