dba T3 4000 Rotors/Hawk HPS Pads/Goodridge SS Lines/Motul 5.1 Fluid

Brake change & Review #2:

If you read through my previous review with Stoptech Rotors/Hawk HPS 5.0/Pentosin Fluid you'll see what prompted the change. If you didn't check it out here: https://www.myg37.com/forums/brakes-...uper-dot4.html

I have been itching pull the calipers off for paint but had been waiting until I could gather all the new brake components. I wanted to limit the constant opening of the brake system. So without further ado:

New setup:
1. dba T3 4000 clubspec slotted rotors - front & rear
2. Hawk HPS Pads
3. Goodridge Stainless Steel Lines
4. Motul 5.1 Brake Fluid

The thought process:
I initially wanted a multi-piece rotor because "its cool" but in reality I couldn't justify the extra cost since I have no immediate plans to go to the track. I bailed on the drilled style because realistically while it looks cool they can get clogged with brake dust, provide less surface area for the brake pads, and have potential to crack. dba makes a nice product with some advanced venting characteristics and has a pretty good look to it.

I really liked my Hawk HPS 5.0 pads, however the dusting was pretty excessive. This time around I decide to go with HPS as stopping quality is advertised to be similar with less dust production.

I have about 400 miles on the new brakes and here's what I can say about them:

PROS:
1.) Aesthetically they are a good look, perhaps slightly less noticeable than the Stoptech Drilled & Slotted however I would wager to those who know what they are looking at may appreciate it more. I certainly do.

2.) Performance feels consistent, firm, and strong
a.) Since its summer it doesn't take much to warm things up, not sure if cooler weather will change initial pedal feel.
b.) All is quiet, no squeal, shudder, grind or any other worrisome or annoying sounds.
c.) Dusting doesn't appear to be all that bad, however I did say that at the outset with my HPS 5.0 but that worsened over time. I will have to keep a close eye on this and update if anything changes.

3.) Fluid Change: I timed this overhaul with my scheduled fluid change. The old Pentosin fluid still looked ok but I felt it had lost some of its enthusiasm. It was a good fluid but I thought I'd give Motul a shot. I bought 2 liters and ran almost all of that through the system with a Motive Bleeder (Again, if you don't have one, get one!).

4.) Stainless Steel Lines: Super easy swap, and no leaks. My old lines were in good shape however between the line and fluid change the pedal feels much more firm. For more info on the lines themselves go here: https://www.myg37.com/forums/brakes-...-g37-370z.html

Con:
1.) I haven't found any cons yet, aside from cost being fairly high. I will try and keep this updated as I put more miles on to see if any concerns crop up.

Final Thoughts:
Overall I was looking to have/keep a strong brake system and still maintain aesthetics. I was fortunate to find a sale get all 4 rotors for just under $750 shipped (I saved ≈$200). Hawk HPS Pads came in ≈$170, Goodridge Lines at ≈$180 and Motul Fluid for ≈$52 ($12.99/500mL x4). I also picked up new brake pad hardware for less than $20.

I am really happy how this turned out. I made a wheel/tire change after the first 400 miles which gave me the chance to look in on everything, and all still looks really good. I may gave the brakes another quick bleed just to make sure all the air is out of the system.

I ordered the rotors through AutoAnything, I think I had a 20ish% off discount code.

Thanks for the review! I have the DBA T3 4000 (drilled and slotted) rotors paired with Hawk HPS 5.0 pads and love the setup. After 1 year (and roughly 3000 miles) I have had no issues, minimal dusting, and great stopping power.
