After BBK Install, soft 2inches :D

Did bbk install today. Braking power is awesome compared to stock 2 cylinder calipers. Braking is very progressive, but brake pedal is not so hard as it used to be on initial brake press.

It is not spongy, just 1-2 inches are empty and then very linear brake feel.
Bleeded all in correct order, inner nipple first. Master cylinder never went dry during install/bleeding.

Any thoughts?

Rebleed it

slartibartfast 05-13-2018 07:26 PM

I have the Akebonos. When bleeding the brakes, the pedal is rock hard and immediate. As soon as I turn on the car, the pedal has travel before retardation begins and some of the firmness is gone. The car stops just fine, though. It's been this way since new. Something designed in and I can only speculate as to why.

Dzionassi 05-13-2018 08:01 PM

here is the thing, response of the pedal is little worse compared to original 2 cylinder calipers, but braking power and braking modulation is way better with Akebonos.. Just initial brake press is too soft.... Try to re-bleed later this week.

Remember that you're moving more fluid. Did you get the Akebono-specific master cylinder?

No, I was told it is all pretty much the same....

EDIT: But i was suspecting this could be it...

How many miles are on the car? Did you check condition of brake lines

It is a new car (15k miles), with new SS brake lines.

Surfnazi 05-15-2018 06:17 AM

You got air in your lines still then or vacuum line on master cylinder is loose or bad

I hope so, but i don't believe so. Will try to bleed one more time...

blnewt 05-15-2018 11:33 PM

You said your master cylinder never went dry, but do you recall how low it got during the fluid change?

hair lower minimum mark...

Surfnazi 05-16-2018 05:42 AM

You need to use a pressure bleeder if you can access to one

Dzionassi 05-18-2018 08:20 PM

Quick update:

After additional 2X 500ml Motul 5.1 bleed, Problem fixed. 2 soft inches, became 2 hard inches.

Nothing like a little Viagra bleed to make things right :)

Glad it worked out!

sure thing

slartibartfast 05-21-2018 11:34 PM

Farthest first is not necessarily correct anymore since the advent of ABS. Gotta check the FSM.

correct, my Acura got totally different bleeding sequence.

Surfnazi 05-22-2018 05:53 AM

Well unless you got Nissan tool to actuate the abs pumps farthest first is still closest way

slartibartfast 05-22-2018 11:19 AM

My '94 SE-R did not use farthest first; it had ABS. Check the FSM.

Surfnazi 05-22-2018 12:47 PM

Tomato tomatoe

slartibartfast 05-22-2018 03:24 PM

Check. The. Fsm.

Baadnewsburr 05-23-2018 08:09 AM

the FSM on these cars happens to start with furtherst first (Pass Rear)...you unplug the ABS module to fully bleed the system...no special tool needed

Yeah, it starts out furthest but doesn't go to the next furthest, as per FSM it's passenger rear, driver front, driver rear then lastly passenger front

Surfnazi 05-23-2018 11:32 AM

Hokey pokey style

slartibartfast 05-23-2018 02:39 PM

Dual circuit, bleed longest circuit fully before bleeding the other.

Where is the ABS module? It can function with the car turned off?
