Soft Brake Pedal?

I have a 2009 G37x that I bought used in 2015. The car at the time had 146k on it. At the time it had a soft brake pedal meaning that it felt like the first couple inches of applying the pedal nothing happened until I pressed harder. I eventually got sick of it and had the brakes replaced with new pads and rotors. The brakes were properly bedded and yet they still have the same feeling. The brake fluid is at the proper level as well. I'm lost for what to do. I have driven a friend's identical 2011 G37x and the brakes felt great. They are not confidence inspiring at all. (I don't track the car, but I like a firm brake pedal.)

A soft/spongy brake pedal usually is an indication of air in the lines. I would try and bleed the brakes, and if you haven't done it recently (in the last 2 or 3 years, or if you don't know if it was done) I would flush the lines and use all new brake fluid. That should help get rid of the soft pedal.

Thanks, that is what I was considering doing next. The car now has 177k and I have not done it in my ownership of the vehicle.

+1 for the brake bleed. Should fix your issue. If that doesn’t fix it, check caliper slides. If seized or stuck, they can cause a soft pedal. If the slides & calipers are ok, then you’d have to look at your brake master cylinder or possibly the abs pump/module for losing pressure internally
