Tein Basis Coilovers? Yes, no?

Went with 19 inch cheapums wheels as opposed to 20's for comfort though. As far as the teins i was in the same position couple months ago and researched relentlessly before I pulled the trigger. I think it fits exactly what I was looking for, mostly height adjustment with comfortable ride qaulity and decent price. Of course I still was in denial about the infamous "rides like stock" line. But this one actually fits the bill. Am at 26 3/8 ground to fender height all around and clear all bumps no scraping so just about right. I experimented with many heights and that one seemed to be just perfect trade off between looks and drivability; and it still is very comfortable could not tell the difference other than feeling better planted and as others have said a little wavyness/bounciness on certain types of pavements. Definitely happy with the choice.

Michael Diaz what region are you located in? That makes a big difference for comfort. When I had my Z, it was on stock suspension and 18s. I thought it was pretty comfortable down here in NC, but when I drove it in NYC it was hell. Choppy ride and rattles galore. So the roads you're on make a big difference. That's something people should mention.

@future62 yes i learned my lesson, with Z i had 18's that was really comfy but with my G coupe had 19's, filled out and looked great but for a daily driver it started to outweigh the enjoyment of the car a bit. Just a little. The G sedan i drive about 60 miles min a day and I really wanted more meat on there but not too buldgy think the 245/40/19 was perfect, no rattles jarring sounds. 20's may have full out the back better though but I think I would go with 255/40 all around next or maybe keep fronts and 275/35 in rear

@MegaDMus I'm going back and forth on whether to get 19s or 20s. The roads down here are really smooth and I hope that with some lighter 20s I can keep my ride comfort.
@blnewt I know what the spring rates are... I just need to know the size so I can get the rates I want. I feel like they are 5.5ODx9L but I need to know for sure. I emailed Tein so once I find out I'll relay the info.

That would look really funny trying to torque down based on how long my torque wrench is compared to the wrench from Tein. I would also need an adaptor to get the torque wrench down to 3/8" to fit. Yeah, I think I will stick to tightening the collars down by hand.

I got an email back from Tein on the rear springs. See below:
I imagine the springs being the same dimensions for the Basic.... so the rears are a 5.5ODx9L spring. They seem to have got some info wrong though... I asked about the Flex Z kit (VSP92-C1AS3), and they got the spring rate wrong (it's 10K for Flex Z and 8K for Basis).
I have been thinking about trying this setup... the Flex Z + Hyperco 10/8K F/R would be like $1100.... problem is there's still a huge risk; I'd hate to try this setup and it still rides like *** which is what the consensus seems to be on the Flex Z. And the Basis looks good but I'm not a fan of changing preload (and consequently damper stroke) with ride height.

products. The rear spring would be an exclusive spring to the kit and would
have the following dimensions,
232mm length, 101mm inside diameter, 140mm outside diameter, 12KG spring
rate.
An 8KG spring from the STREET BASIS Z kit can be used, but the spring would
need to be special ordered as it is not a normal stocking item. The cost for
a replacement pair would be $280.00 and would have an ETA of 2 to 3 months.
In regards to the fronts, the maximum recommended spring rate range that the
damper can allow would be 10KG. Any changes made beyond that would be at
your own discretion and can cause the dampers to prematurely fail. If you
are interested in the part numbers for both the 8KG rear spring and 10KG
front please let us know and we can gladly assist you with this.

i dont know what kind of roads youre driving on or how fast your flying over the speed bumps that you come across, but i take it nice and easy over speed bumps, just as i would for any lowered car that im driving... i wouldnt exactly describe the overall ride as squishy... but i also wouldnt describe it as stiff. i think it has a good balance of comfort with a sporty feel to it. its definitely a huge improvement from the stock springs and shocks (which in my opinion, are comparable to driving a boat on wheels around town. extremely floaty with a huge lack of response.)
also, for those running the "higher end" tein coilovers... i've come across countless issues with tein over the years and how they love to couple high spring rates with shocks that have terrible rebound/dampening resulting in some of the most uncomfortable/hazardous, due to sudden impacts of my head with the car roof/bouncier than a trampoline/horribly jagged rides, even while driving down a near perfect road as flat as ruler. sometimes i swear they dont know what the hell they are even selling and are just slapping the springs and shocks together for ****s and giggles to make the into overpriced "high end coilovers". ive had my experiences with a variety of tein springs & tein coilovers, such as, the super streets and the old tein flex with the electronic dampening controller (not sure if its still an offering of theirs) and it was always hit or miss. if i was going to ever invest in a set of high end coilovers for the track, i wouldnt consider tein, even if they were the last coilover manufacturer on the damn planet. just my two cents....

Forgot who mentioned squeaking from the front end after a few weeks with them installed but I chased a squeak around for weeks. Got tired of lubing my Eibach sways so much I ended up removing and selling them thinking it was them. Turns out the stiffer ride caused my front top hats to begin to squeak. I got rid of the Basis and with the stock shocks I installed new top hats and squeak was gone. You may want to check that for squeaks.

I think it all depends on your wheel setup as well. I recently purchase R35 rims and the ride is so much better then my stock wheels. I was starting to give up on tein but they came through with the clutch boiiiiii ha
