Impressions of Akebono upgrade

Had my Akebono's installed with stop tech pads and centric blank rotors. I bed them in with 2 sets of 10 stops from 75-10 mph and then did a cool down drive in between sets. The rotors turned a nice shade of blue and the brakes were smoking. I have to say that this is a significant improvement over the stock xS brakes. The car just feels so much better coming to a stop and pedal feel is much more predictable. Also I love the way the brakes fill out the 19" wheels. Install was easy and everything bolted right up with the shortened banjo bolts, had no leaks or anything, had to trim the front and rear dust shields, but other than that a straight bolt on deal. I don't understand why the AWD sport didn't get these from the factory. So to all of you thinking of doing this upgrade, I highly recommend it!

It need's a detail bad! I'll get it cleaned up on Thursday when I get back from Phoenix and post some pics of it cleaned up and with the track bike and trailer attached to it and maybe a few shots from the track too.

It does, just not in Sedan form
Sedan guys get no love.

I'm glad you're impressed w/ the upgrade, and those Stoptech pads really do a nice job, especially once they're heated up a bit.

Glad you had a smooth install too

I'm looking forward to really testing mine out, thank you for the update. I still haven't bedded mine because of all the front end issues but I'm taking the 14th off when I get back from China and I'm thinking I'll heat things up then.

I have to agree with you OP. My non-sport brakes were upgraded to Akebono calipers w/ stoptech rotors, stoptech lines, and hawk pads. There is a lot more bite and less sliding under heavy conditions.

If I could go back, I would probably have purchased Goodridge brake lines over Stoptechs due to routing and fitment.

My stock brakes really had no comparison. The BBK was a great mod, since I scorched my stock rotors one evening. The Akebono BBK has a lot more braking power. All smiles here.

The stock rotors suck.. typical nissan quality. They warp very easily. I hope to upgrade in the future.

Might be a silly question, but did you notice any difference in acceleration after switching to the Akebono kit? I'm just wondering if the heavier rotors have a noticeable impact.

Actually, its the stock pads that suck and leave deposits on the rotors leading people to believe they have warped rotors.

I got my Akebono upgrade going on in about a week. Went with Stoptech ss lines, Hawk HPS pads and DBA rotors. Should be a nice upgrade.

The stock brakes are awful IMO. Still am surprised the X sedan's never got this as an upgrade. The new Q50 includes these brakes with the sport package.

Yes, my stock brakes were lacking in stopping power. There was an incident on the freeway were I came very close to rear ending someone because of a sudden stop 5 cars ahead of me.

I am extremely confident that I'll be able to stop on a dime under my normal driving conditions. There is no longer the feeling of the car forward under heavy braking.

Yeah, I guess "deposits" on the rotors can make these unique burn marks on all four rotors. Anyway, I was being a jack@ss and under "normal" driving conditions I wouldn't see this happening.
