Brake pad recommendations
 

Looking for recommendations on brake pad brands for 09 g37s coupe. What kind is best with low dust and low noise?

Really happy w/ my Stoptech Street Performance pads, very good bite, not noisy but slightly more pad dust than OEM but worth it IMO for the better stopping power.
Rockauto.com or Amazon has them for a nice price BTW.

I've got Hawk Ceramic. Zero noise. Almost zero dust.

I use the stoptech also. Way better than oem

Hawk Ceramics are a good choice for that no noise, no dust pad.

If you're looking for more performance Hawk HPS is a good route, still no noise, but there will be more dust, good linear bite.

Even more performance StopTech pads, maybe a minor bit of noise when it's cold out, more dust, great initial bite.

BB and Nick, how are Hawk Ceramics compared to stock in terms of stopping performance?

You might lose a bit of bite with the Hawk Ceramics. That's the typical compromise with Ceramics.

The Sport brakes generally come with semi-aggressive pads at least as compared to 'regular' car pads.

The Hawk Ceramics perform a lot like OEM Akebono sport pads only a little better.

I'm a bit surprised - but remember. My job is to stomp the crap out of brake pads and see what they have. :coolio:

I did recognize that the Hawk Ceramics I ran on an STi took some pretty good pain without complete fail. I just find them a touch pricey. If they set them down 10-15% or so they would sell a LOT more I bet.

Thanks gentlemen, this helps me steer away from the hawk ceramics for my next brake change. I am not very demanding in my day to day driving, but when those "oh no!!" moments occur or the yearly track outing, I want some serious stopping power.

Typing this reminded me of my first "oh ****t" moment. It was ~6 weeks after I got my car. I didn't anticipate a light change and the car in front of me hastily stopped. I stepped on the brakes and increased the pressure on the pedal and the car kept slowing quicker and quicker. I was being held in by my seat belt as were my two passengers and we stopped well before I thought I would (~4 car lengths). Quite a relief and nice feeling :)

My brakes have some vibration now and I want new ones but I am putting it off till it gets warm again so I can do it myself (only gets driven on weekends these days).

I just replaced my rear pads with OEM Akebono pads. The shop forgot to put the shims on the new pads so they made an awful racket driving home.
I decided to fix it myself and borrowed some car jacks. Cleaned the shims from the old pads really good w/brake cleaner and then smeared lots of that brake compound that ships with the brakes all over the back. Zero noise.
New Motul DOT4 brake fluid in the system also has seemed to aid in stopping performance.

I just got my Stoptech High Performance pads installed. VERY grippy, but they definitely create a ton of dust.

Here's the wild part. I got this done at 92K+ miles...and I was still on the original brake pads. He said my backs were time to replace but my fronts could have gone another 10K or so. Crazy...
