Tanabe Sustec Pro's installed

I received my Tanabe Sustec Pro S-OC’s from Lou at Amplified way back in December but I decided to wait till after winter to install them. It’s been a early spring thaw out here in Toronto and I had last Friday off so I went to get them installed at Advanced Power House (read about them here in the forum).

Edward is a great guy and there were 2 of them working on the car. The install went smoothly and he adjusted the height to be slightly higher than the slammed look as my wife drives the car a lot and she didn’t want to worry about every pothole and speed bump like our old car which was low (am I just getting too old…)

I was almost on the verge of selling them and going the eibach springs route but I wanted the adjustability and the matched spring/shocks combo not to mention less $$$. I’m so glad that I kept them as the ride is perfect for me. The suspension absorbs bumps smoothly and feels much better than stock. Nice and tight without any of that loose floaty feeling that you get with the OEM suspension. This is how the car should have been built from the factory!!!

Great lowering stance!

Thanks guys!

I have to thank the forum for some great reviews on the Tanabe's. I was about to go the Eibach route or even Eibach fronts and Tanabe rears but I'm so glad I listened to evenyone that said go coilovers and run Sustec Pro S-OC's for a great daily driver ride. Even my wife was happy with the result as she drove the car last Sunday.

Tanabe coils kick arse for daily driving needs!

Felix_the_Cat Mar 24, 2010 12:15 AM

skylineEx-s, car looks great! I'm in the same boat you were in, with doing eibachs but ive decided to do the tanabe coilovers and will be doing them next month. Are you running a front or rear camber kit? also what brand/size spacers are you planning on going with?

SkylineEX-S Mar 24, 2010 12:40 AM

No camber kit yet but I'll go for a alignment first to see how much out of spec it is.

Most likely going to go with 15mm spacers as I eventually want to go with 245/275 tires on the oem 19's.

looks good, cant wait to get mine.

how much of a drop did you lower them?

SkylineEX-S Mar 25, 2010 02:42 PM

Mild drop of 1.25" up front and 1" in the rear. Close to that spec and very drivable on a day to day basis.

I drive almost the same route everyday and there is a section that needs to be refinished. On the OEM suspension the car was bouncy almost to the point of being uncontrolable. Now with the Tanabe's the car feels much more composed and in control.

I like ! :icon38:

Well the car definitely looks really nice and clean... Congrats, and I know I will find myself going this same route very soon

i also wanted to inquire whether or not you have noticed any settling in them since you got them. I know you haven't had them long since you recently installed them but various forum members with these coilovers have said to expect about 3/8 inch more drop once settled... (I don't wanna be rubbin either!)

SkylineEX-S Mar 26, 2010 08:33 AM

Actually yesterday I did take a double take when I looked at the car in the garage. The fronts I could only get 1 and a half finger widths and the rears I couldn't even get a finger straight (very scientific method) The I remembered I just put a full tank of gas in the car too...

I may have settled a bit in the past week but there is absolutely no rubbing at all with the stock oem wheels and tires. Hopefully with 15mm spacers all around I won't rub either.

Adjusted the heights yesterday and got the car to 26 3/8's front and rear. Looks to be almost the same height as the eibach's on another car in the parking lot. Hopefully my wife won't scrape the car anywhere...
