Subframe replacement due to rust. Realistic? In a sticky spot.

Hey everyone,

Looking for a bit of advice: Long story short, I have a 2009 X sedan with 140,000km and I live in eastern Canada (an area infamous for rusting vehicles into dust, regardless of rust treatments). After I heard some strange groaning sounds coming from the rear end, I took a wheel off yesterday and saw that my rear driver side control arm has rusted away from the subframe. I'm imagining the passenger side is also on it's last legs (although not rusted through 100% yet)

Could anyone advise whether this is a worthwhile/ straight forward fix? Has anyone else had to do this repair? I am not in the best financial position currently, however I would rather pursue getting this repaired first before considering scrap (the engine is great,as is the rest of the car i believe).

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

After having a quick look on ebay, it looks like used G37 sedan rear subframes are $100-200 plus shipping, which can be a lot.

I haven't replace the rear subframe, BUT I don't think it would be difficult... time consuming, but not difficult.
Are you planning on doing it yourself?

I have a friend who said he's willing to do it for me, thankfully. Thank you for the heads up re pricing! I had a look too and everything seemed to be $800+. I must have been looking at the entire assembly though rather than just the rear.

Good luck, and if you don't mind, post some pics of your progress.

i saw some on eba last summer for $100 which was a good price, I may have to do mine cuz we had lots of snow and we use salt on or streets.

is there any difference between the AWD & RWD rear subframe do you know?

I don't think so... and this seems to back me up:

Has anyone here tried using the solid rear subframe bushing from Z1? I'm working on the same area of my suspension and looking around here for information.
