Cup holder will not stay closed . . .

Been acting funny the last few weeks. Today it will not stay closed at all. What and how do I disassemble and replace?

Check that the insert that sits at the back of the cup holder is in place and not keeping the lid from shutting fully.

It shuts fine, but will not stay closed. Looks like I need to pull the center console. Might try the magnets first.

remove the center console, remove the cup holder from the console and fix it. Once you will get it out, is easy to figure out how to fix it.

Link for instructions on how to R&R the console? Dealer says $400+ to fix it.

Check the attacked file. You will find instructions to remove the central console there. Once console removed, you can remove the cup holder from console.
Don't rush, take your time, work carefully.
If you need to fix glue any pieces in place, use poxipol. NOT super glue or some other acrylic glue.

naaah... i fixed mine after a passenger broke it by pulling the lid open.
I disassembled the central console and i found a broken plastic pin on the latching mechanism.
I used a 3mm screw to put the pin back in place.
It was easy since the pin already had a hole and the screw fit perfectly.

It was a 20 minute job.
Taking the central console apart and put it back toke most of the time.
You have to disassemble the console to pieces to take the cup holder out.

My 2009 G37X sedan cupholder piece broke..Any after market foam or rubber insert I could put in there to hold cups steady. The lid is short and no bother stays open.... If you know of an after market piece for sale instead of glue and tape and foam please email me.. Thanks Ken Kmad55@comcast.net

I have to slam mine pretty hard to get it stay closed. I open it by pulling on it which produces a pretty loud plastic cracking noise...thought this was normal?

Or see post #7. Much easier than disassembling console.
It will break soon and not stay closed.

I almost always have it open anyway. If I do start to close it i'll look into the fix. Thanks for the responses!

Pics of the fix to answer a PM. Note to self; red wine and glue do not mix! 1/2 cad plated washer and (2) super magnets from home depot. As long as I am posting pics; one from my vacation too.
