Underbody rust on 2012 G37x
Hi all. I just purchased this 2012 G37x in Pennsylvania. My mechanic in DC found this underbody rust, which I didn't realize was still a potential issue in modern cars. Should I be concerned?

those look like the normal spots to find rust on these cars in the northeast..but it does look like a more severe example, except for the calipers...I don't think that's rust its just dirty...
most of the pictures that have been taken are the exhaust which are all part of the same system and looks like it needs to be replaced as they are at the end of their service life.
The other shots, swaybar, subframes and subframe braces are steel pieces ..again pretty normal spots on this car to get rusted, if its surface rust it can be treated, its not a big deal...some of whats pictured may be rusted through and may need replacement but most of it looks like its treatable

replace exhaust and any other rusted-through parts.
blast the underside with Fluid Film (get at Lowe's, Autozone) once or twice a year.
" FLUID FILM® is manufactured using an intricate heating and blending process, which combines unrefined wool wax with selective polar agents and corrosion inhibitors, creating a unique, lanolin-based formulation that stops existing rust on contact. Penetrating on contact, it creates a fluid, self-healing barrier that is always active and will not chip or crack, protecting vehicle undercoating’s and exposed metals for extended periods of time. Safe for use on all metals, it will stop pitting in chrome, will not harm most paints or plastic, and has exceptional lubricating properties, penetrating to stop squeaks and provide lasting lubricity for all moving parts. Electrically non conductive, FLUID FILM® has a high flash point and a thin, flexible composition, making it a perfect protectant for battery terminals and electrical connections."

I was disappointed when I got under mine last year.
Understand this will outlast my use for the car but I don't like it

Build your own bandwagon.
Speaking of rust, any news on whether or not any of our vehicles will be involved in that massive recall they had in Japan when Kobe Steel admitted to feeding the industry sub-standard sheetmetal? LINK:

sbowden99,
In looking at that exhaust, I suspect the previous owner didn't do many long trips and the exhaust doesn't get hot enough to remove the condensation inside the exhaust system.
You can't really do anything about a rusty exhaust... BUT you should do something about the rust on the subframe. Maybe something like this:
