I was too scared to try to remove the hands. I'd be interested to know if they can safely be removed.

I watched another video from a guy messing with the stereo so I could see how to get at the clock. He seemed concerned about taking the whole panel completely out (detaching all the connectors) for fear of sending a false signal to the computer about the passenger air bag. Is this a concern? I saved money finding a replacement clock; don't want to spend it on an air bag reset. Thanks!

I have removed the entire panel from my '09 37x approximately 20 times for troubleshooting and repair testing. I have not any issues with air bag reset.

Just don't turn on the car with it unplugged (not sure, but that may trip the SRS light, which can be easily reset).
