Typical steering wheel paint was peeling at the control buttons. Did not want to have to remove the air bag to repair / replace and did not want a peel and stick dash cover.

Did a search on CarID.com and found a B&I 3D steering wheel cover. Purchased in real carbon fiber finish, and it turned out great. Installed in 5 minutes. Color is nice, but certainally has a brown / black color. Was expecting dark black carbon fiber, but I really like the look. It did take some wiggling to fit it around the horn pad, and the fit is so tight, I did not utilize all of the 3M tape to secure.

My steering wheel is not bad but wanted to see what color options they had.
I was looking for a solid black just in case I wanted to try one but it seems like the only "piano black".
This might be a little too shiny and it will stand out too muuch

I know, at one point I got really frustrated looking for it

• From the CarID main menu go select " Dash Kits"
• Select your car
• From the left menu select the brand "B&I"
• From the two results select the "3D model dash kit"
• Select product options ( a new window will pop-up )
• From the new window select "Premium 3D-Wheel Kit 2 pieces" (3D044E1)
• Select "view photos & select finish" ( a new window will pop-up)
• This new window will have 3 options on top. If you click on #2 you'll be able to see the 2 pieces. Options # 3 is the "Finish"type
• From there you can select "Accept Finish" and the window will close
• You'll go back to the previous window and you can "Add to Cart"

are any particular model years more prone to steering wheel "peeling"?

mine is fine, but just curious - is this a problem more in hot climates? my wheel trim just seem to be solid black plastic. Is there a clearcoat that peels off? would applying a good UV protectant regularly help prevent it?

yeah, thats how i understood it - the button surround-area.

didnt realize it was painted - seemed like solid black plastic ...

have to tell the wife i cant wear my wedding ring anymore, might scratch the interior

Landshark, I believe they finally went to black colored plastic around 2012 model year, don't know why they waited so long to do it right

i'll add that if you do have this problem, and don't like the carbon fiber look, you could get a can of Krylon Fusion paint (bonds to plastic) and do black, or any other color they offer. i used it on other stuff and it works well.
