Glovebox light won't work
Today I installed my Diode Dynamics interior kit and came upon an issue with my glove box light. I had notice before changing that the stock bulb wasn't working before and assumed it was just dead. I installed the SMD from DD and it didn't work, so I flipped it around to make sure it wasn't in backwards, still no go. I inspected the stock bulb and it didn't have any damage, nor did it look blown out. :dunno:
I went to the dealership to see if it is a possible wty part but no dice and I certainly didn't want to pay $135 for a diagnostic check on it when that was only for the issue and not an entire car inspection. All other cabin lights and electronics work, no blown fuses, and the trunk lock works fine as well (wiring is bundled until just before it splits to the trunk lock, light and some radio component. I have searched google and the forums but nothing seems to lead me in the right direction. I'm not in the box that often, but I still want it to work. :52::banghead: |

Can we assume you had your lights on when checking? Telcoman |
I'm pretty sure that I turned them on to check, but I don't remember. I might check that later today. Seems odd that an interior light would require the heads to be on.

Ditto what Telcoman said, the glove box light only comes on with the headlights, there is no dedicated switch just for the glove box. I had the same issue when I changed my bulb but figured it out rather quickly.

Popped on the headlights during my lunch break and it didn't look like the diode came one. It could be in backwards or too bright for me to tell. I'll rip the box back off tonight with head lights on and flip the diode to check.

If you've tried it both ways, and with the headlights on, I'd suggest replacing the fuse just to be safe

Well, I went to my car a little while ago (now that it is as dark as is possible here), popped open my glove box and hit the head lights... nothing. Turn car to ACC, no go, turn car on (no engine) and nothing. I put the car back into ACC and ripped out the box, as soon as I popped the last cover piece of so I could access the diode, it flickered and then boom, light. The only thing I can think is that when I had the light bundle clipped to the back of the cover that it might have pinched a wire or possible a wire is loose? Either way, it is working for now. Thanks guys for the help. Also, I read in another thread that the center panel and glove lights are on the same fuse as the tail lights (they piggy back) is it me, or does that seem odd? It'd seem to me like you'd want them on their own switch/fuse. Perhaps just easier to integrate that those lights don't run unless the lights are turned on, as in theory, there is no reason for them to run if you don't need the exterior lights.
