As for the brightest crisp white bulb you will want Osram Cool Blue Intense. They cost about $185/pair |
Here is a solid pair of D2S bulbs from a reputable company. So long as you don't mind the 5000k color.

From what I've read they are not compatible with nissan or infiniti ballasts. It even says so in the description. Not for use with OEM Nissan/Infiniti ballasts (Matsu****a) The factory ballasts are sensitive and will not ignite those cheap bulbs. The XB35 are the updated version that are compatible with infiniti ballasts but even some members say the XB35 sometimes doesn't light up. My dad's 09 EX35 has XB35 and they work just fine |
After one of my bulbs died, I was pressed for time, so I stopped by a shop where they replaced the set with a pair of cheap off-brand bulbs. As qmantran said above, sometimes I'd turn on my headlights and they would light for 1/2 of a second and shut off immediately. I would eventually get them to stay on by flashing the high beams repeatedly and then switching them on again.
Per the advice on this forum, I ordered a set of OSRAM CBI bulbs about a week later and installed them. These bulbs are great. Light output is fantastic and they gave me the crisp white light that I was looking for. Although they have "blue" in the name, there isn't really much blue to them at all. These bulbs also perform well in the rain / snow. If you're looking for crisp / clear / bright light, I can definitely vouch for the OSRAM CBI. |

I have the XB35 in 5500K and they work really well considering the price point.

Do I need a kit with these. Is there a good pair to get without getting a kit.
Osram Cool Blue Intense are expensive but they are the rolls royce of all headlight bulbs. There is nothing close or better than osram CBI. Buy them and you will not be disappointed. I guarantee it. |

No you do not need a kit. You just put the bulbs in and that's it

I have the osram bulbs and the other day I was behind an Acura MDX and that light was way brighter than mine! What the hell?!? I even have the clear lense up from retrofit source. I had oneighty install them. It's like the Acura MDX had 100% brightness and mine was running at 50% brightness

was it the newer MDX with the LED headlights? that would explain the difference.
