New Car ... Driver's Seat Leather Cushion Woes
 

Maybe its me being anal retentive but the leather on the driver's seat in some areas is wrinkled - rippled - and not flat. It seems that the material want pulled properly during stitching. You can see the areas in the pictures below. The passenger's seat doesn't have this issue. Would you consider this a defect and have it fixed, or am I being too picky?

If the cushion cover can't be replaced, I'm not sure it's worth the trouble and possibility of damage to surrounding panels / trim to replace the entire seat. My dealer's service dept. is very good but you can't count on someone working on your car as carefully as yourself. Thanks for the feedback.

From the pictures it looks "normal" for our cars. The leather is soft and prone to stretching. Your passenger seat likely doesn't look like this because it's been sat in less. At the moment it doesn't look like the kind of defect the dealer would be willing to do anything about.

The dealer will replace it if the cars newer and you make a fuss. But it will just come back. I've had it done on my 09 when I had it, and my recent 12. It looked the same after about two weeks. I gave up on going back. It's the foam cushioning. I also only had this problem in the drivers seats. I rarely have people in the passenger seat though.

Have you ever seen a year old BMW seat? About ten times worse.

Yeah my 06 7 series had the bubble crease on the drivers seat bottom.

Give it a bit more time, and the whole bottom of the seat will look wrinkly. It is aesthetically unpleasing, but I bet it will almost always happen over time. It happened to my seat, and I only weigh 130 pounds (if weight has anything to do with it).

You can't be serious...

I forgot to mention. The car only had 13 miles when I picked it up so it has nothing to do with being sat in or normal wear and tear.

as others have said, i think this is "normal" for our cars. i bought my 2009 pre-owned with only 32000km on it. i bought it from the dealership that serviced it and they provided me with all the service records. the records showed that the guy who owned it before me had the driver seat base replaced TWICE in the time he owned it for the exact issue you're asking about. so i now own it with the 3rd seat on there and guess what? same issues everyone else is noticing. do a search of this forum and you'll find a TON of posts about this.
i'm pretty obsessive about keeping my stuff nice too, but i've learned to just live with it. you're sitting on it anyway and all the other positives of the car far outweigh a little wrinkled seat leather.

Thanks. Anyone know how invasive is to replace the bottom seat? Any issues with messing up center console panels or trim?

Here is mine which currently has 1 year and 9600 miles on it. Maybe it's just me but I honestly don't think that is an unacceptable amount of wear showing. Things are always nicer when new but apart from not using them they can never stay new forever. Try not to sweat the little things and enjoy your ride for what it is.

I would not call this wear, it's natural characteristics of a cow (yes, that's what it is folks) and it's not as nice of a cow as used in Maserati's.

^^Must be a result of radiated meal used to feed the cows in japan :) Leather quality, like paint quality, not what it used to be.
