Thanks man! I'm sure yours will look awesome when its all set and done, post up some pics when you have it all together

I haven't found a good way to remove it, the girlfriend and I just took a flathead screwdriver and lightly scraped it all off. The flathead will sometimes scratch the paint in the engine bay, but it's still way better than the wax being there. I wonder if the wax was only applied on Canadian cars?

It's a rust preventative/inhibiter. Probably cosmoline, or something similar. The previous owner likely paid for a "rust-proofing" scam. Helpful maybe for a brand new 1975 Ford Granada, but pointless today.

My ipl is canadian so maybe. Its in every hole and crevice on every exsposed bolt head. So hard to remove. I found goo gone help alittle and drive the car hard then try to remove as heat helps soften it.

Hair dryer would probably work much better than running the engine. And use a plastic edge, not a flathead screwdriver.

g'luck. I had a car 30 years ago with that crap all over the engine bay. What a mess it is.

Yeah mines the same stuff. I'm not going to scrape it all off, since it's on all the exposed paint and bolts. Would be nice if something would dissolve it and not harm the plastics and rubber in the bay.

I think I'm finally worthy enough to post in here. Not done yet and still deciding on the look that I want. Here are my current setups...depending on the day and my mood

How are you guys with painted engine covers smoothing the center silver part in order to get that metallic mirror finish after it is painted?

Love the engine bays in this thread. My dad is headed to Japan later this month and I've asked him to see if he can get any of those nice JDM pieces while he's over there for me.

Question: any recommendations for a painter for the engine cover/radiator cover/battery covers? I would like something more professional than what I can do with my limited DIY skills. I love the work done by JPSBLACK37 but I understand he no longer is doing work in this area (I PM'd him months ago but never heard a response -- heard he has a new baby which I'm sure is justifiably sucking up all his free time). I'd appreciate any recommendations for someone who can do similar work.

Any particular cover you are referring to? I think some folks may have sanded it down

Trying to figure out what to do next to my engine bay to clean it up some. or to show off a little.

Any suggestions?

Radiator caps?
Power steering reservoir sleeve?
Not sure if i want to drop the coin on dress up bolts yet
