Can't get my grill painted?!
Since the shop that powder coated my wheels still has my car thought might as well get my grill painted so I sent them this email (with some pix of blacked out grills from the forum)
... Anyways, this is basically what I'm looking for (check the attachments) Matte Black grill BUT infiniti logo matching the color of the car (in the second picture its yellow, I want it gray instead.. exactly like my car color) Can it be done? Please get back to me ASAP with a price quote Thanks alot, Sam Hi Sam, We're very sorry for what you've requested for the grill because we need to change the grill. It's not possible to paint the grill to black matte........it's plastic. Thanks, Best Regards, www.chrome-and-carbon.com Could they have understood that I also wanted that powdercoated? What are your thoughts people? |
More then likely they thought you wanted it powdercoated.....which is why they mentioned it was plastic.
|
Send it to me, I'll do it for you. Seriously. I just got mine back on the car tonight. Even my wife thinks it looks great and she usually isn't a fan of anything I do on my car.
|
haha just do it urself when u get back!
its easy few steps! saves u some money |
will the paint peel off easily? like sand storms.. driving at 100 on the highway etc? auto car wash?
|
can't powedercoat grill cause it's plastic, they paint wont peel, but it'll chip.
|
and how could that problem be overcome?
|
^^ 1+ you cant powder coat the plastic so thats why they said "NO"
driving 100 will chip any paint, but I have seen a lot of custom grills and most of them have some chips but not noticable unless you look close. |
i want the gialla grill...the more i see them on a g35, the more i like it.
if that grill doesn't come out, i'll most likely paint mine black for the time being...and yea you can't powder coat it. people have done it with Dupli-Color paint... just sand, prime, paint, clear coat. I was gonna bring it to my buddys place to get painted cause he does the body work at a local shop here. |
I had my bumper replaced and they repaced the grille too, so i asked them to leave the top and bottom chrome and do flat black inbetween. The body shop denied me because they couldnt warrenty what i wanted due to it being plastic and would chip easy...wtf?
Anyway, I have my orginal grill painted flat black all over and it does chip, so just take the time to respray it every year or so. It costs about $30 to paint your own grille, and going flat black hides imperfections a little better than gloss. |
That is what most body shops are going to say. Thats what they said the first time I took mine in. They really just mean that it will chip if it gets hit with something which it could but I have had mine done on both G's for several years total and still no chips and if you do get some, take it off and repaint it.
|
Take it to a body shop
|
yea u should seriously do it ue self im not expert at all an i was ablt 2 do a good job just dont get cheap products
|
well, I just found out that the center caps were painted too.. and guess what, they chipped off! so i went on and chipped off the whole thing..
I dont want my grill chipping off.. :dunno: |
