Bat's overlays over 3M Guard?
 

Anyone put overlays on top of the 3M guard on their headlights?

Went to 3 shops today trying to get someone to install them and they all said the taillights were impossible because of the curve of them and the thinness of the tint - and that they won't do the headlights because the 3M is already on there.

Also - if anyone did install themselves, how did you get around the hard curve back then forward (kind of like a peak) the taillight takes at the edge without getting major air bubbles and creases?

DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL YOURSELF... unless you have a lot of experience with tint... and i had a few tint shops tell me the same thing..

I did it you just have to heat up the tint with blow dryer and keep a bottle of soapy water available to keep the area wet as long as possible... I think bat made some kind of video on this a long time ago..

and it didnt bubble...?

You'd be amazed at how many people actually install themselves. I'd say about 95% of my customers install themselves. Its one of those tjings you either have a knack for it or dont. I do offer a discount on 2nd sets or pieces if you screw up ;).

Thats a bunch of bologne and they know it. Any good shop with experience in Vinyl Overlays can do these. RFemember, not all tint shops can do vinyl, both tint and vinyl are 2 different materials alltogether!

Seriously though, a Clear Bra Installer should be able to install these with no probs.

Yeah - 2 of these places were clearbra installers.

Guess I'll just keep shopping around or try myself.

I was thinking - would maybe doing the flat part of the taillight, letting it dry, then doing the curved part with a blowdryer while the flat part is now stuck to the car work better?

setting the flat areas first is good. If you have the gtr cuts, set those first as well. Are you in SoCal? My installers doing a Diamond Graphite G37 as we speak. Installing my gtr headlight/taillight/3rd brakelight/ and roof Overlay :). Pics coming soon!

I think I'm just going to try again myself with maybe a friend helping me. At least on the headlights, as no one will do them with the 3M on there, but I don't want to remove it.

they are really not that hard to do. just need to take your time. have a good hair dryer or heat gun and a large 3m decal smoother...

Well, I apparently am not nearly as artistic as others.

Just tried the headlights today - spent 1hr 45mins on the first headlight, 1hr 30 on the 2nd. Used a spray bottle, bucket of soap, credit card with a thin cotton towel over it, etc, etc, just like the instructions say.

Both look like crap. No matter what I do, nothing lines up at all, especially when dealing with the lower-outside curve on the headlight. There's always excess that turns into a crease somewhere....Also getting the bottom "point" to line up with the top "point" causes excess slack on the side which causes creasing when trying to lay it flat. Then I tried using a blowdryer to get the creases out and stretch it slightly - bad idea.

I got them on - but along the outside edge there's a ton of creases....

Bat, it looks like I'm going to need another set of headlights from you....

i think bat makes more money from people ordering second and third sets then he does from first sets lol..
