Radio randomly switching to "reading disc"

Hello!

Just purchased a G37 sedan, and have a weird issue as to where at random times my radio will randomly switch to disc reading mode as if I've pressed the Disc button (while I'm listening to FM radio). I've noticed it also always does so when I suddenly aggressively accelerate as well.

I can order a replacement part to fix this, but my question is should I replace the module with the buttons that control the screen, or replace the lower module where the actual CD slot is located?

Any help appreciated!

First, welcome to the site. What year is your sedan?
The multi-function switch (the dial one below the screen) actually plugs into the preset switch panel (the one with the clock) with one ribbon-type cable.

Before you start throwing parts at it, I would suggest you run the self-test/self-diagnostic functions for the AV system. This will tell you if there are any connection errors or codes for the AV system (totally separate from the OBD system) and also test the function of the switch(es). This will indicate if the switches are good, or bad, and if there is a history of past errors.

If the tests all check out, then I would suggest you remove both switches, inspect the assemblies, harnesses and connectors for dirt, corrosion, pinched wires, etc. If everything checks out, reinstall and see if the problem reoccurs.

If the problem does reoccur, then you can see about changing the MFD switch assembly (dial one). The blessing is that there is only one trim piece, a handful of screws and 3 wire harnesses to detach and the switches come right out. Very easy.

You should be able to Google to find and download a copy of the factory service manual (FSM) for your car. Section AV is what you will reference for this matter.

Thanks for the awesome info! I will try the diagnostics test once I get home this evening.

Just bought the car on Saturday, it's an '09. Truly my dream car, just got to fix a couple small issues, lol. I had an '05 coupe, but the wife totaled it a few months ago. This seems to be the biggest community online for G37s so I thought I'd join. :)

Glad to help in any way possible. The community here is awesome. Here is a link for the FSM:

You will need section AV but I would STRONGLY suggest you download the whole manual as these links have a tendency to disappear.

Same Issue!!!!

Hey World. I just bought a 2011 G37x. Loving the car so much so quickly. But having the same “eject cd” issue. Downloaded the repair manual. Haven’t had a chance to test the wiring harness. But where can I purchase a new one or find the exact part number for it??? And did you ever figure out the issue???
I’m buggin out. I don’t know if I should go aftermarket or what.
I have no Nav. Bose. Single cd.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Im loosing sleep and my girlfriend hates me for constantly being on my phone and computer trying to fix it!

Haha, same here man. I'm a sales coordinator for LKQ so I just purchased a replacement radio (cd drive box) from work and will hopefully install it tonight and see what happens. My only worry is if I will be prompted to enter some kind of anti-theft security code once done. Any ideas anyone? TIA.

There are no anti-theft codes to be concerned about. Simply unplug the old unit and pop in the "new" one.

Word of caution: attached to the headunit is a rectangular, white plastic box with 2 connectors plugged into it. This is your ACC Amplifier. I STRONGLY suggest you mark these 2 connectors BEFORE you unplug them. These connectors are identical and VERY easy to mix up.

My problem was successfully fixed! I figured since it wouldn't take CD's and kept switching to CD mode no matter what mode it was in (thinking CD was inserted/ejected) that the problem was the lower module and was correct.

Glad you were able to get it sorted out!
