REVIEW: Infiniti Nav System 2017 update Ver X9

The first disc is called the "software applications disc" and that one requires no code.
Then you have discs 1-4 which are for nav, which will prompt you for a code. Its a hexadecimal code, that is somehow based on a combination of your VIN and your nav's unit ID.

my understanding is that unit's software is independent of the map data.
It's like saying can I use windows 10 with office 2013? Yeah sure.
I'm getting the discs next Monday. I will definitely confirm then.

I agree, one would expect that, but I've seen the opposite of this in the past too. A number of years back, Garmin rolled out a map update for the pc in a new format. Required an updated version of mapsource to be installed (windows software). Some very smart tech folk figured out the data was essentially the same, just in a different format. Came out with a utility that would convert the new format into the old.

Before I do the full update, I'll do the nav firmware update and see how the unit works. I'll let you know!

So I did the firmware update but kept my 2010 maps. Put in a destination and went for a drive. Seemed that the nav worked fine with newest software and old maps...

Software update
Software update, yeah kind of like the application software, or maybe part / all of the operating system, who knows. I wasn't aware that this was the first disc in the set, usable separately. Interesting.

i need more seat time. seems a little smother, but no real major differences other than stability.
The main thing for me is bluetooth, but ive been so busy with work i havent driven around in my car much. I work from home. Will keep you up to date.

If the first disc requires no code, I wonder if that disc could be used for general distribution (I.e. the dealer would be able to provide it free of charge).

I just ordered the
INFINITI Navigation Third Generation DVD Map Update Version 10 for United States and Canada
for my new to me 2013 vert. I do not think it has ever had an update. Waiting on it to arrive, I should have a good week or so after updating driving local and then will be taking a trip from OKC to KC MO, I have the XM free trial with traffic and weather so it should be an interesting experiment.

After tax and shipping (2 day) it is closer to $150 but by using various "coupon" and bonus / rewards ect end cost to be will be around the $80 range just have to wait for some of the credits to roll in. I try not to pay full price for anything I do not have to.
