G37 Smart Key Fob - How to get one programmed cheaply (Cost, Price, Locksmith)

If you need a new key fob for you G37, you have a number of options ranging in price from $330 to $70. The more you spend, the less aggravation and risk.

The key fob for the 2007 to 2013 G37 is the KR55WK48903-4L (OEM part 285E3-JK62/A). This is identical to the 2007-2012 Nissan Altima and 2009-2012 Nissan Maxima fob (OEM part 285E3-JA02A).
An excellent resource is LockSmithCharley.com

These fobs can only be programmed by a dealer or automotive locksmith -- you cannot do it yourself.

You will need 3 things to get your new G37 fob working:
1) a KR55WK48903-4L smart key (the electronics and case);
2) a blank key blade insert (to open door if the battery fails, see first photo for a cut blade sitting on the computer);
3) programming services.

A new KR55WK48903-4L smart key can be purchased from an Infiniti dealer for $175. There is no risk to this options (and it includes a key blade), but it is very expensive. You can purchase new OEM Infiniti fobs for $50 on Ebay (a bit more risk). You can purchase used genuine OEM fobs (either Infiniti or Nissan) for $20-$30 (some risk they will not work and you will need to purchase new batteries and a new blank key blade). You can purchase a new generic fob on Ebay for $20-$25 (a lot more short and long term risk).

The blank key blades are $30 for an OEM one from an Infiniti dealer or $2.50 for a nice generic one from Ebay.

Finally, you need to pay someone to program your fob. See the attached photos to see how it is done. Briefly, a remote is hooked up to the diagnostic port on your car, a special computer reads information from your car (10-15 minutes to get going), all the key fobs (your originals and any new ones) must be reprogrammed (in the slot lower left of driver, about 1 minute per remote, maximum 4 per car), and a the key blade must be cut from your original.

The cost for the programming in my area is $135 from an Infiniti dealer, $65 from a Nissan dealer and $55 from an auto locksmith.

My choice was to purchase used Infiniti fobs on Ebay ($20), blank key blades on Ebay ($2.50), CR2032 batteries on Ebay (5 for $1 from China) and get the programming done at my local Nissan dealer ($65).

Total cost to get 2 new fobs and reprogram my 2 existing fobs (for a total of 4 working fobs) was $110 or $55 for each new one. The cost for 1 fob would have been $88.

Given the minimal cost of adding another fob and the risk the one you purchased might not work, I would suggest having an extra (you can always sell it if you really don't want it).

Remember --- You will pay the dealer no matter if the fobs you bring in work or not. Have extra batteries. Be sure your dealer is willing to program fobs purchased elsewhere.

I hope that is helpful.

Nice! I was given 2 fobs from the dealer but one was for another car because the key doesn't work in the door and the fob isn't programmed. I'll have to get a blank key and the fob programmed. Luckily, that's specifically listed under the warranty for no deductible... I lucked out.

Can the dealer somehow cut a new key for you if you lost the key to the fob and only have one fob? Car was bought with only one fob and I lost the key.

Should be able to find a locksmith, the car I purchased a few months ago only had 1 fob. Like you checked around Nissan said no, which I question, Infiniti said bout 3 bills complete or 120/150 between a couple of stores to program. Told the lot where I got the car they had to provide a second they agreed, he got a used fob had a locksmith program it, Dallas area, not sure of locksmiths name. I asked what it cost him he said bout 40 bucks for the program.

I bought a Dorman Products fob from AutoZone. It came with an OBD programmer module. I took me less than 10 minutes to program the fob.

Here you go

Dorman Keyless Entry Alarm Remote Control 99159 - Read 1 Reviews on Dorman #99159

It truly took me less than 10 minutes to do it. Just read the instructions like 4-5 times to understand the steps before you start. They also have a $179 option with unlimited fobs! I wonder if you need to order the OBD module first and then take advantage of the $179. The fob has a blank key blade.
