How to Install a Back up Camera?

I just bought a 2009 g37s with pretty dark tint on them, im pretty sure its illegal. anyways at night when i backup i cant see anything at all, i can barely see car headlights if theyre not pointing directly at my car. I need a backup camera and was figuring out the wiring. so when taking off the plastic where the trunk latches onto there are some wires and im wondering if i can drill there or go beyond that and unbolt the spare tire mold holding area.

I have not looked at this area in detail on my G (Mine came with a camera), but when I did my Acura TL, we had to use a drill to get holes not only in the trunk metal, but also the plastic license plate trim.

Another question: what display are you using? If your car already has a navi display, you can use a NavTool or similar to use that for your backup cam. Otherwise, there are Bluetooth units which come with an additional display. Some even have a replacement mirror with the display in that.

Good luck! I hope you get it worked out.

does the car comes pre wired for the camera? i have an 09 g37x without back up camera as well. i bought an oem spoiler and back up camera and was wondering if i need a wiring harnesses or not

Short answer: yes. When I added the rear camera to my '08 Coupe I had to add some wires as there was no harness for the camera. In other words if the car does not come from the factory with the camera, for my '08 at least, it is not pre-wired for the camera. This may be different with other years/submodels.

^This makes sense. I doubt anything is pre-wired unless it has that particular option installed.

i figured it out on my own and could probably make a tutorial

I see you figured out the reverse camera!!it's it an aftermarket camera? If so, please help!!! I want to do the same with a camera that fits in the rear tag light spot....for now, but later modify my new trunk. I can't find anyone that's saying how to do it. It's only a couple of wires so I can't figure out why it's so hard.

i just wired a backup cam into my '09 X.

i bought a
-spoiler with a camera hole
-a backup camera (has to be aftermarket and non OEM!)
-a spool of 18 gauge wire
-video interface from naviks (optional)

I was able to machine up a mounting bracket for my camera and use the pre-existing holes in the trunk to mount it.

(bracket I made)

(tapping into the reverse lights for a trigger to automatically have the camera turn on when shifted into reverse, this is accomplished with the naviks video interface only. otherwise you would need to press the AUX button every time)

i tapped into the night tail lights where the side of the rear turns on at night, this way everything i turn on my low beams or lights in general the camera is powered so its a toggle on and off just in case i want to watch if the car behind me is going to rear end me at a traffic light

i forgot to mention to avoid it shutting off when your backing up or moving your going to have to do a navigation bypass, dont buy those $100 modules they are a big rip off i could post a tutorial but its against the forum rules. BUt youll need just spare wire, a screwdriver to access behind the radio and a diagram

hope this helps i was able to figure it out

Greetings! This is my first post, as I've just bought myself an 09 G37X last week. I'm looking to do this myself, and could really use some guidance.

As far as I know you can just buy the oem parts and it plug and play. I'm not sure why coupecrusin used aftermarket parts.

Here are the wire attached locations
This is a link to my results of making my aftermarket backup camera work without switching screen selection manually. It also keeps the factory video
interlock functionality in all but reverse gear.

4 cheap relays and a willingness to solder on the circuit board of the selector button panel.

Schematic
Schematic...
Relay1 opens the speed input in reverse only.
this allows aux mode to stay on in reverse, keeps aux from displaying in forward gear(legal) and keeps the speed sensing volume control working on the radio.

Relay2 triggers the delay timer (read on for reason of the delay timer relay)

Relay3 selects “aux” or “radio”

Delay timer relay. This is needed because relay3 will close the radio switch anytime the car is not in reverse. If this timer was not in the circuit, it would be the same as holding down the “radio” button all the time. The radio would work, but you wouldn’t be able to select CD or any other switch. The delay relay outputs a momentary output, even with a constant input. This only outputs for a fraction of a second after leaving reverse.

Hey trendz. I'm trying to follow your schematic, and it seems like to do it this way, the reverse cam feed will plug into the aux input? Thanks
