Hi/Low level input

2012 g37x sedan w/Bose non-nav

I will be installing a Jl 500/1 amp with a W3 soon and was wondering if I tap in before the Bose amp do I connect the Hi level input or do I get a set of RCAs and connect to low level inputs.. Also by doing this will I lose any of my component speakers?

if you tap at the amps input, they are low level. the output is high level.

low level (preamp) signal from head unit ---> [ Bose amp ] ---> amplified high (speaker) level signal ---> speakers

as long as you don't short out or leave wiring open, you won't affect your other speakers.

i would use the low-level signal before the amp, because that is not being processed by the Bose EQ. use the adjustment on your amp to tweak the low pass filter to your liking.

also, if your amp's low-level inputs are RCA, you can either buy one of these:

... or get a regular RCA cable, chop off one of the ends, and splice the wires yourself.

luckily my powered sub input is bare wire. i had to cut off the RCA's i spliced on for the previous car i had it in so i could connect it to the taps on the Bose amp wiring.

Anyone have a write up or can explain what has to be done to a NON-Bose (base) sedan to add a sub amp?

Found out my problem. The term "sub" is not able to be searched in the forum for some reason and will produce 0 results. Once outside in Google you can search for the term sub. Sorry.

ground loops and alternator noise.

check your grounds and get a gound loop isolator.

+1^^^ make sure you've got solid grounds and that everything is wired correctly. You shouldn't be getting any noise

if you still get alternator noise, yes. they are fairly cheap and just plug right in ... get one with male RCA on one end and female on the other, and just "insert" it between your preamp RCA's and your amp input.
