Possible to switch '08 low res nav screen with '10+ high res nav screen?

Yeah so how easy is it to switch our '08 low res nav screen with '10+ high res nav screen and updated weather info and stuff. Is it plug and play? Anyone here done this to their '08 yet?

No, but if you find a wrecked one you're welcome to try.

Of course it's possible. Anything is possible!

I have a 2008 with 2010 navigation system. It's not a simple swap and play. It required replacing the screen and the a/v system, along with rewiring of the harnesses.

But the graphics and resolution of the 2010 system is 100x better than the 2008. Plus, you can play videos and music through USB and DVDs too.

Here are a couple of pictures:

How bad was the harness rewire? Did you source a 2010 nav off a wreck?

Was there anything that was PnP? Existing steering wheel controls, etc.

What did you do with the CF slot opening on the center Washi piece?

All the rewiring is done on the harnesses behind the navigation control unit and the screen. Most of the wires were there but needed moving around. Also the rear camera harness has to be modified for the backup camera to work.

I left the CF slot. The faceplates from 2010 are a different style and color, so that did not work. I tried to use the faceplate from 2008 without navi (which does not have the CF slot), but the CD slot is slight lower and does not fit.

Hi Modme, i'm curious, did that update your Bluetooth as well or is that not managed by the a/v unit?

It's part of the a/v unit. It is upgraded with the navigation.

For those of us that would be lost to even begin to figure out how to do such a thing... Where could we go and how much money would we have to throw at it to get something like this done?

You would get a black screen. 08 and 2010 use completely different video signals. They are not compatible with each other.

I wouldn't attempt it if you are not familiar with electronics. There's a lot of rewiring involved.
